TLC - NMU's teaching, learning and communications initiative

Student on computerAs part of NMU's high-tech learning environment, you will be provided with a ThinkPad notebook computer or an Apple MacBook (Art and Design majors) as part of tuition and required fees. (Art and Design majors pay $200 per semester more.) Distribution of computers to new students occurs at the beginning of each semester. You will receive notification of when and where to pick-up your computer about two weeks prior to the start of the semester term you enter.

The computer you'll receive will be loaded with the latest software and give you access to the campus network and the Internet from just about everywhere you can imagine. You'll also be provided with support including a help desk and on-campus repair center. You can even take the computer home with you on breaks and over the summer.

Are we giving you a notebook computer to be nice? Not entirely.  When you graduate, you'll have lots of experience using state-of-the art technology in all phases of communication, research, managing projects. You'll also know how technology is used in your discipline.  NMU graduates report being ahead of the game when they start their first jobs, thanks to Northern's innovative notebook computer program.
