Get Moving

You don't necessarily have to do yoga or be a star quarterback on the football team to get and stay in shape. Just get active doing any activity you enjoy - be it walking, hiking, biking or even rollerblading. For the students who are competitive, NMU has a variety of intramural sports to keep you active. You've also got the opportunity to use the PEIF cardio equipment, weights, pool, racquetball courts, fitness studio, golf simulator and climbing wall. There is something for everyone.

Just remember, staying active not only helps to maintain your physical health but also decreases stress and improves your overall level of wellness.

Eat Well

Whenever possible at our on-campus eateries, opt for healthy, protein-rich foods like grilled chicken, fish and veggie burgers. Make a meal of a salad, being sure to choose as many different colors of vegetables as possible. Remember to go with low-cal dressing, too.

NMU's Dining Services accommodates vegetarian and vegan diners with meals balanced with right combination of proteins, calcium and vitamins. We even have a dietitian available to answer your questions about healthy food choices.

Stay Healthy at NMU

Northern has two fitness facilities available to all students: The Wildcat Fit Zone and the Physical Education Instructional Facility (PEIF). Tricia Bush, Associate Director of Campus Recreation, opens up about what makes a Wildcat as you get a walking tour of the PEIF in this video.
