Application Status Check

If you have submitted your Undergraduate Application for Admission and would like to check the status of your application, you are in the right place!

*Please note: You will need your NMU IN (NMU identification number) to check the status of your application. This number will not be available until we have entered your application information into our system.

We process your application and documents as we receive them, and we normally add them to your "application checklist" within 3-5 days of their arrival in the Admissions Office. (During peak application times, October through December, it may take us 10-14 days before they are processed and added to your checklist.)

Some items take a bit longer to arrive (transcripts, test scores), so if your file is still incomplete in about three weeks, we’ll send you a reminder letter about what is still missing.  If a document will not be available until a future date, please consider our letters friendly reminders.

*NMU assigns each applicant a unique student identification number (NMU IN) to protect your records and privacy. You will use this number a lot in the future, such as to register for a new student orientation session, to make your housing reservations, set up your NMU e-mail account, register for courses, and more.  You will or should have received a letter after you applied that contained your NMU IN.  If you did not or no longer have it, give us a call at 1-800-682-9797.

Our admissions counselors are here to assist you through the application process and to answer your questions regarding “next steps”.  Each of our counselors works with groups of students based on where you live or what type of applicant you are (freshman, transfer, etc.).  You can find out who your NMU admissions counselor is and how to contact them at

If the online application status check is not working for you, or if you just have questions, please call us. Our office is open Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Eastern time.  Our phone number is 1-800-682-9797 or 906-227-2650.

**Students who have applied to re-enter the university should also check for any holds that may impact their admission or registration status.
