How to Request a Transcript

Order Transcripts Online

NMU has collaborated with the National Student Clearinghouse to provide online transcript ordering. Current and former students can order transcripts online anytime using a major credit card. Speed and convenience are the best advantages of this service. Receiving automated status notifications via text and email is another great feature. Students can order an electronic PDF* transcript or have a paper copy printed for pickup or mail. The automated electronic PDF's are sent to a designated email account in about 30 minutes or less.


*Receiving an electronic PDF copy requires a starting date of Fall 1993 or later.  For student attendance prior to Fall 1993, paper copies are available.

Current Students

To order an official transcript(s), log into My.NMU. Click on the Student Services tab, click the Order/Track Transcript link. Order status and updates will be sent by email and/or text. You can also Track Your Order Online.

AMCAS, LSAC Transcript Orders - Click on this link for directions on how to submit by Electronic Exchange (ETX).

Transferring?  If you pre-enrolled for the fall/winter semester at NMU, those courses will appear on your transcript. You will be required to provide an additional transcript to your new college once those courses are completed or dropped.

Former Students

Click on this link: Request a Transcript Online and read the information! The green start button is at the bottom of the page after the important information. The online form will walk you through placing the order, including delivery options and fees. During the order, you will have the option to attach a transcript matching form if needed, for institutions such as PharmCAS, PTCAS, etc.  You can order as many transcripts as you like in a single session. Order status and updates will be sent by email and/or text. You can also Track Your Order Online.


If you are experiencing technical difficulties with submitting transcript order information on the NSC site, try using a different web browser such as Chrome or FireFox,  and/or delete your history/cookies.​ Some users experience problems using a smart phone. If that's the issue, try using a laptop computer, tablet or newer phone instead.

Financial/Laptop Holds

If you have a financial or laptop hold, your transcripts will not be released. Please contact the Student Service Center at 906-227-1221 or log into the NMU e-bill payment center.

December Graduates

Check the Hold for Degree Posting option if you want to wait for your transcript to state that you have graduated. (Currently available for December graduates only). Previous degrees are already posted to the transcript. 

Degree posting requires a verification process that takes extra time after grades are posted to appear on a transcript. To check and see if your degree has been posted to your transcript - log onto My.NMU, go to the Student Services tab and go to the Unofficial Transcript link. When you request a transcript, you may request one of the following:

  • Send transcript now 
  • Send after degree is posted to transcript


General Information

Order by Mail

If you do not have online access, you can use a paper form and order by mail, click on the Request Forms link on the right side of this page. Because mailing a form to NMU is dependent on the U.S.Postal Service mail and campus mail distribution and pickup, please consider using the online option if time is a factor. If you need your transcript quickly use the online service mentioned above.

All paper requests must include: name, NMU IN (or S.S.# for non-students), signature, transcript fee and the exact address where the transcript is to be sent. Each official transcript is requested by mail is $5 per copy. First class postage is included in the transcript fee. A check or money order made out to NMU must be included with all requests received by mail. You can also drop off the form at the Student Service Center. Transcript requests that do not include correct fees will not be processed and returned to sender.


Transcripts and transcript payments cannot be made by phone, e-mail, from friends, your spouse or relatives in accordance with The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. There are no exceptions to this policy.


If you are currently living outside the United States, stationed abroad in the military, or if you have an emergency situation, please use the online site to request your transcript.

Because of personal security and other concerns, NMU cannot e-mail, scan or fax transcripts. NMU does not accept transcript requests by fax machine (order online).

Unofficial Transcripts

Currently enrolled students can view their unofficial transcript at My.NMU. Former students can request an unofficial transcript by filling out the unofficial transcript request form and sending it to NMU with a check or money order. Unofficial transcripts cannot be requested online, telephone, email or fax. Unofficial transcripts are printed on plain white paper. Unofficial transcripts do not have an NMU logo or school name. Unofficial transcripts are designated for personal record use only. NMU does not issue unofficial transcripts to colleges or employers. NMU issues unofficial transcripts to the student only. Student's cannot use an unofficial for transfer purposes. Unofficial transcripts are stamped "Not Eligible for Transfer. Student Use Only". If you need a transcript immediately, or for some other "emergency" reason, it is recommended that you request an official transcript online. NMU does not e-mail or fax unofficial transcripts. NMU does not accept unofficial transcript requests by email or fax.


  • Former Students - Fill out the Unofficial Transcript Request Form and send it to NMU [address is on form] with a check, or drop off form at the Student Service Center for processing.


  • Current Students - Access unofficial transcript by going to My.NMU and click on the Student Services tab, then the Transcript-Unofficial link. If you would like to print or download the online transcript, there is no print or download button, but there is a work-around on a Windows computer, click: CTRL +  P, then click the Destination Printer drop down menu. Save as a PDF is one of the options. 


Transcript Request Options and Fees

Requested Online and Delivered by Electronic PDF
 - $8.50
Secure link delivered to an e-mail address within an hour.  Electronic PDF delivery is
 only available to students who first enrolled at NMU in the Fall 1993 semester or later. Any student with attendance dates prior to Fall 1993 can only receive a paper copy.


Requested Online and Delivered by Mail or Office Pickup - $7.50
Regular processing time for mail is 2 - 3 business days. You will receive an email/text notification when ready for pickup.  Processing is usually fairly quick if your record is automated (post 1993).

Requested Online Rush  - Delivered by Mail or Office Pickup - $22.50
Processed within 24 business hours. You will receive an email/text notification when ready for pickup.
This service does not include one or two day postage. Rush service is only for processing of the transcript. 

Business hours/days are Monday - Friday, excluding Federal Holidays such as Veterans Day. 
Order must be received prior to 11 a.m. EST on a business day in order to go out in the same day's mail.

Requested in Person and Rush Service at Student Service Center - $15
Usually processed while you wait or same day service.
Cheaper Option: Order online and receive an email/text notification when ready to pickup for $7.50. Usually the same day, depending on time of order.


Requested in Person Using Paper Form at Student Service Center - $5
Regular processing time 2-3 business days. [slowest option].
No email/text notifications with paper service. Order online and receive online email/text notifications.


Requested by Mail Using Paper Form - $5
Regular processing time 2-3 business days once received [slowest option].
No Electronic PDF option using paper service.
