Northern Michigan University places a registration hold on a student’s registration for classes when a student has not met conditions or obligations due the university. To have the registration hold removed, contact the office that placed the registration hold. The office that has placed the registration hold is the only office that can lift the hold. A registration hold may be placed for the following general reasons:
Assigned Registration Date Hold
The assigned registration date hold is placed on all student accounts to prevent registration prior to their designated time and date. The hold will be lifted prior to registration. See mynmu.nmu.edu or the Registration Week Schedule for your designated registration time.
A hold may be placed by the Academic Policies Committee against the enrollment of a student who has been suspended or expelled for failure to maintain the standards outlined in the Academic Proficiency Policy. Adviser Registration Hold
The university places a hold on all students who have completed less that 18 hours at Northern Michigan University or whose Northern Michigan University and/or cumulative GPA is less than 2.00. These holds will affect both full and part-time students.You can determine your class standing and registration status by reviewing your student data on the Web, or by calling the Student Service Center at 906- 227-1221. These holds can be removed only by your academic department after you have met with your adviser. A hold may be placed by the Dean of Students Office against the enrollment of a student who has been suspended or expelled for disciplinary reasons. The hold may also be utilized by this office to provide the student with a written statement of impending judicial or administrative proceedings when attempts to reach the student by mail or by telephone have failed. A hold may be placed by the Student Service Center against enrollment by a student who owes or has been delinquent in paying financial obligations (library books, medical bills, parking fines, etc.) to the university. First Year Experience Hold
The university places a hold on all First Year Experience (FYE) students. This hold will be in affect into your first semester at NMU. Once registration begins for your second semester, the hold will be released. For more information, contact your academic adviser or Academic and Career Advisement Center, 3302 C.B. A hold may be placed by the university physician against a student who fails to provide proof of vaccinations or who is being denied enrollment because of psychological or medical problems. Holds applied in these situations are made on the basis of recommendations from the director of the Health Center, another medical doctor and/or a member of the Northern Michigan University Counseling Center staff. A hold may be placed by Asset Management against a student who has failed to return the leased notebook computer by the established return deadline date. Students are not eligible to continue to use the leased notebook computer if they are not registered for credit earning classes at the university. Holds are removed when the notebook computer has been returned; late fees may apply. Students may contact Asset Management at 906-227-1422, 227-1256 or e-mail email@example.com to have the hold removed so that they may register for classes. A fee may be charged to remove the hold.
A hold may be placed by the registrar against a student who fails to provide proof of graduation from high school or transcripts from previous colleges attended. A transcript request form for other schools can be found below. To avoid any further delays, be sure to check with your former school for the cost of a transcript.
