ELCE Division Overview

Student working on a computerYou are the 21st century university students and as such, you have different needs and wants about how to learn and where to learn than many past college students.  That is OK because Northern Michigan University’s Division of Extended Learning and Community Engagement has got you covered.

Don’t have the ability to come to the NMU campus? You can learn online from anywhere in the world through NMU Global Campus. What is most exciting about the NMU Global Campus is that it is continually growing in dynamic and innovative ways that enable our students to create the educational experience that fits their time, place and style.

If you are a resident of the Upper Peninsula, watch for NMU LTE to come to your area. This high-speed, wireless educational broadband network, which is being built across the entire U.P., will make learning online convenient and affordable, and offers special opportunities for our lifelong learners.

Want to jump start your college degree experience while still in high school? We’ve got you covered with the Northern Promise, which is a dynamic partnership with several participating high schools that gives you the chance to take college courses through concurrent enrollment, middle college or dual enrollment and count the credits toward both your high school diploma and college degree.

Another part of the Division of Extended Learning and Community Engagement is the English Language Institute, which has programs to help you improve your English-speaking and understanding abilities.  The division also oversees international student recruitment and admissions.

We also operate a statewide, award-winning student-run entrepreneurial product development program called Invent@NMU, develop business training for local, state and national agencies through Continuing Education and Workforce Development and keep alumni connected to NMU.

We are a division with a big mission and we’re excited to help you meet your educational goals.   Click here to learn more about our offices and programs and services.
