Background and Interests
Professor Cogley joined the philosophy faculty at Northern in Fall of 2010. Prior to that, he was a lecturer at UCLA. His philosophical interests are in ethics, social and political theory and agency theory.  He has current projects on trust, reactive attitudes, anger, the concept of desert, and punishment, among other topics.  When he teaches, he has four primary goals: to inculcate in students an appreciation for and an interest in philosophy; to help students achieve clarity in their thoughts and writing; to facilitate their understanding of the arguments relevant to an issue; and to model respect for others and their ideas.
