The NMU Foundation

The mission of the Northern Michigan University Foundation is to cultivate and promote the private philanthropic support of NMU’s mission through a comprehensive advancement effort.

Kayley Porta completed an internship at the Milwaukee Crime Lab. She couldn’t have done it without gifts to The Northern Fund.

Former Wildcat QB Endows Scholarship

NMU Graduate and former Wildcat quarterback, Keith Nelsen ‘86 (pictured on the right), recently established an endowed football scholarship. The Nelson Football Scholarship will provide financial support for a student playing on the NMU Football team (active roster) who is also a graduate of a Wisconsin high school. "The MidSchoolMath National Conference was a gathering of over 700 math educators from around the country. Paige and I were some of the only undergraduate students in attendance. In addition to the privilege of attending, we also got to present our work on middle school robotics.""The trip to the MidSchoolMath National Conference helped me grow as an adult, traveling without my parents for the first time, and also as a processional. Preparing for the presentation, planning how to make it engaging, and talking in front of about thirty math education professionals…will be useful when I begin my professional career.""Talking with peers and professionals alike made students understand how competitive the Fish and Wildlife filed is, what career path options are, and make connections with colleagues. Attending this conference made a huge impact on and provided an advantage to the Fish and Wildlife students at NMU.""Attending this conference helped me get further explosed to real world applications and developed my general professional skills. Being surrounded by more than a thousand fisheries and wildlife professionals was an eye-opening experience, and I am confident this has made me competitive for graduate school, summer opportunities and a career in conservation."

Our students appreciate what giving does for NMU. And because of you they don't need to experience what a university would be like without it.
