Adjunct Faculty Benefits Summary

Benefits for individual who are also full-time employees at NMU are governed by their respective Union Contract or Personnel Policy Manual.

Tuition Scholarship Program: Adjunct Faculty may enroll in classes, including for-credit courses offered by Continuing Education, up to the number of credit hours they are teaching in the semester (e.g., if teaching four (4) credits in Winter semester, may take four (4) credits in Winter semester at no charge). NMU will abide by State and Federal laws regarding the taxability of benefits.

Staff Development Courses: Adjunct Faculty may enroll in professional development noncredit courses at no cost with department head approval.

Recreation Membership: Adjunct Faculty who teach four (4) or more credits in a semester may purchase a Recreation Facility membership (single or family) at a faculty/staff reduced rate.

Bookstore Discount: Adjunct Faculty receive 20% discount on books; 10% discount on other items. Does not include sale items or caps and gowns.

Social Security Benefits: Mandatory University and faculty contribution. Monthly benefits at retirement or in case of total disability.

Workers' Compensation: Adjunct Faculty should notify department head immediately of work-related illness or injury. Income benefits may be available as well as payment for medical expenses.

Parking: Adjunct Faculty, when completing necessary forms, receive one (1) free parking decal and the option of pre-tax payroll deduction for any additional parking decal fees.

Library: Adjunct Faculty receive library privileges equal to those offered to full-time faculty.

Tax-Deferred 403(b) Plans: Available through payroll deduction.

Banking, Credit Unions: Electronic funds transfer available.
