Summit/Center, Norwood/Center, the Lincoln Ave Townhouses, or the Lincoln Ave Apartments Tenants

If you currently live in a single student apartment in any of the complexes noted above and are planning to continue as a student at NMU and live in the on-campus apartments this summer and/or fall, you will need to participate in Spring Sign-Up which will be held during the week of March 16-20.  If you live in Woodland Park and plan on living on-campus this summer and/or this fall, click here for more information.

IMPORTANT!  The Housing and Residence Life Office (3502 Hedgcock) will be accepting apartment reservations from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. according to the schedule below.

Please bring your NMU student ID with you when you come to reserve an apartment.

THE SCHEDULE

Monday and Tuesday, March 16 & 17

  • Sign up for your current apartment.

Wednesday, March 18

  • Displaced tenants from 821 Summit and 821 Center may sign up for any available apartment space on-campus.

March 19 & 20

MIXED GENDER HOUSING

Beginning this fall, the Housing and Residence Life Office will permit mixed-gender housing in our university apartments.  Briefly, this means that individuals may live in an apartment together regardless of their gender identity so long as each person requests the other as a roommate.  Contact the Housing and Residence Life Office at 906.227.2620 or at housing@nmu.edu if you would like to learn more about this housing option.

RESERVING YOUR CURRENT APARTMENT FOR NEXT YEAR

To reserve the apartment you are currently living in and have it guaranteed for the upcoming academic year, you must sign up for your apartment in the Housing and Residence Life Office (3502 Hedgcock) on Monday-Tuesday, March 16-17.  If you don't sign up for your current apartment by Tuesday, March 17, Housing and Residence Life cannot guarantee that it will be available this summer or next year.

821 SUMMIT STREET AND 821 CENTER STREET APARTMENT TENANTS

The Housing and Residence Life Office will be closing the 821 Summit and 821 Center Street apartment buildings after May 4, 2015.  Because of this, current tenants in those buildings will be permitted to sign up for any available apartment space on Wednesday, March 18 in the Housing and Residence Life Office.  All other apartment tenants will have to wait until Thursday, March 19 in order to sign up for a different apartment for next year.

RESERVING A DIFFERENT APARTMENT FOR NEXT YEAR

To reserve any available on-campus apartment (including available apartments in Woodland Park if you are a single student), you must sign up in the Housing and Residence Life Office (3502 Hedgcock) on either Thursday-Friday, March 19-20.

MOVING OUT OF YOUR APARTMENT AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER

If you are not planning on living in the on-campus apartments this summer or fall, you must notify the Housing and Residence Life Office in writing (housing@nmu.edu with "apartments" in the subject line of your email message) that you intend to leave the apartments at the end of the current semester.  You will need to check out of your apartment by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2015 to avoid a termination fee.

If you will be taking summer courses, but moving out prior to the start of the fall semester, you must check out of your apartment by the Sunday following your last summer class.  Please contact your Community Adviser for more details regarding the proper check-out procedure.

THE SUMMER RENTAL (STORAGE) PROGRAM

If you are reserving your apartment for the fall, but are planning to be gone for at least four consecutive weeks this summer, you may be eligible to participate in Housing and Residence Life's special Summer Rental (storage) Program.  This program allows you to leave your belongings in your apartment and turn in your key.  Housing and Residence Life will then store your belongings for a greatly reduced rate of $3.57 per day or approximately $25 per week.  You will be able to sign up for this program when reserving your apartment for the fall.

IMPORTANT! If there is more than one person living in the apartment, all tenants must participate in the Summer Rental Program for the same period of time.  In other words, one tenant cannot live in the apartment if his or her apartment-mate is participating in the Summer Rental program.
