College to Host International IT Seminar
The College of Business  will host the fourth annual International Information Technology Student Seminar at Northern’s campus in Marquette from February 23-27, 2009. This seminar will bring together 30 upper division Computer Science and Computer Information Systems students from 6 different institutions in Europe and from Northern Michigan University for 4 full days of learning, sharing, international team-building, and socializing.  Full story.

College Faculty Wins $222,000 International Business Grant
The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a four year grant worth $222,000 to Northern Michigan University to prepare U.S. and Brazilian students for highly skilled 21st century jobs that require expertise in entrepreneurship, corporate social responsibility, and sustainable economic development.  The principal investigator and project manager for this grant is Mr. Raymond Amtmann (pictured).  Full story.
College Hires New Assistant Dean
Robert Lion is joining the College of Business as its first assistant dean on August 4, 2008. He will be working closely with Dean Raj Sanyal and Associate Dean Marge Sklar on a range of important issues including student internships, implementing student recruitment, retention and placement strategies and coordinating special events and projects. Gary Brunswick, originally from Iron River, Michigan, has been teaching courses in marketing at Northern Michigan University for the past seventeen years.  What he likes most about the students is their intellectual curiosity and strong work ethic. Full story.

Alumni Spotlight

Michael S. Roesner ('74)
After a distinguished career in the United States Navy, Michael S. Roesner is retiring as a Rear Admiral in the Supply Corps this October.  A native of Flint, he came to Northern and earned his undergraduate degree in Accounting and Marketing in 1974.  Even before he started college, he enlisted in the Navy, in 1969.  During this time he served in various locations including in the Mekong River Delta in then South Vietnam. After getting his college degree, he was commissioned via the Aviation Officer Candidate School in August 1975. That November he transferred to the Supply Corps and completed the Basic Qualifications Course in June 1976. He earned his Master of Science degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1982 and completed an Executive Training Curriculum at the University of Michigan in 1997. Full story.
