What You'll Do at NMU

Studying in the Department of Theatre and Dance provides opportunities to work in your field before you even graduate. You can perform on the Forest Roberts Theatre stage or in the Panowski Black Box, run a show as a stage manager, and learn the ins and outs of the business from people like Paul Truckey, who worked on Broadway for years before returning to NMU to teach. Heavy emphasis is placed on both the performance and technical aspects of theatre in our major and minor programs, and there are also opportunities to be employed at the theater in our costume shop, scene shop and box office, where you can gain an even more immersive experience on what it’s like to work in this field. We also offer graduate internships for the aspiring professional, as well as many other opportunities in the versatile world of theatre and dance.
