Counseling and Consultation Services provides free, confidential, short-term counseling to NMU students. All currently enrolled students are eligible to use the center free of charge. Please call our office at 906-227-2980 to schedule an appointment.


Confidentiality Policy

It is the policy of CCS to not release any information regarding your use of our services or personal matters discussed with your counselor or psychologist. Confidentiality is assured, except for the following situations:

  1. You may authorize the Counseling and Consultation Services to release records or other information to individuals of your choosing. This may be done only with your written consent.
  2. Under ethical and legal requirements, your counselor or psychologist would break confidentiality in the event of clear and imminent danger to yourself or another person.
  3. Michigan law requires that therapists disclose information regarding present child abuse or neglect. Such disclosure would not happen without your knowledge.
  4. In certain legal proceedings, confidential information may be disclosed by court order. This is a rare occurrence and would not happen without your knowledge.

If you have specific questions about our policies on confidentiality and release of information, you may discuss them with your counselor or psychologist.


Staff Supervision And Consultation

Counseling and Consultation Services staff includes licensed psychologists and counselors. Staff may also include graduate interns. Your therapist may discuss your case with other staff members.  All information shared among these professionals is confidential.


Evaluation Of Services

In order to evaluate our services, we ask that you fill out a brief, anonymous evaluation form when you end your session with us. We appreciate your cooperation in the completion of this task: your feedback is very important to us.
