Congratulations on the expected completion of your Baccalaureate Degree this semester!  I know you must be anticipating graduation day with a sense of pride and accomplishment.

In 1986, an ASNMU initiative resulted in the inclusion of a student speaker at the fall and winter semester graduations.  The student speaker address, five minutes in length, is in addition to the main graduation address.  Past graduation attendees have commented on the excellence of the student address and how it added value to the ceremony.  As your graduation day draws near, I invite you to consider applying to be the student speaker at the ceremony.

Student commencement speaker applications are available from the link on the right hand side of this page. All applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from a faculty member.  The application and reference letter must be turned in to the Dean of Students Office by 5:00 p.m., Monday, April 1, 2024.  Applicants will be notified of their audition time, tentatively to be held early during the week of April 8.

I hope you will give strong consideration to applying and auditioning for the honor of presenting the student commencement address.  To find out more on applying to become the Student Commencement Speaker for the graduation ceremony, tips on preparing your speech, or to access the application use links below.  If you have any questions, please contact the Dean of Students Office at 227‑1700.

Sincerely,

Gwen Feamster
