Congratulations on the expected completion of your Baccalaureate Degree this semester! I know you must be anticipating graduation day with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
In 1986, an ASNMU initiative resulted in the inclusion of a student speaker at the December and May graduations. The student speaker address, five minutes in length, is in addition to the main graduation address. Many graduates and family members attending previous graduations have commented on the excellence of the student address and how much more meaningful it made the ceremonies for them. As your graduation day draws near, I invite you to consider applying to be the student speaker at the ceremony.
Student commencement speaker applications are available in the ASNMU office, 1203 University Center, the Dean of Students Office, 2001 C.B. Hedgcock Building, or from the link at the bottom of this page. All applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from members of the University community, at least one of whom is a faculty member. Application and reference letters must be turned in at the Dean of Students Office by 5:00 p.m., Monday, November 11, 2013. Applicants will be notified of their audition time.
I hope you will give strong consideration to applying and auditioning for the honor of presenting the student commencement address. Please refer to the tips provided to assist in preparing your student commencement speech. If you have any questions please contact the Dean of Students Office at 227‑1704.
