College of Business Kick-Off a Success

Justin Jones-Fosu presents:

Be an ACTion Hero: The ACTions of
Super Successful Student Leaders

The College of Business kicked off the fall semester with an interactive presentation by the award-winning entrepreneur, Justin Jones-Fosu. Jones-Fosu discussed how to become a successful student leader by following the steps of any H.E.R.O. What sets average leaders apart from leaders that are super successful are four main qualities:

  1. Humility
  2. Empowerment
  3. Relations
  4. Optimism

Jones-Fosu incorporated personal stories from his time in college as well as in the workplace where he discovered these four keys to becoming a successful leader. The highlight of the evening was when Jones-Fosu had one student from the audience stand up front and pretend to be his girlfriend. After two short weeks of promising young love, the audience member sadly broke up with Jones-Fosu leading to his lovely rendition of Gavin DeGraw's "Not Over You." After hearing the singing, the student took him back and the couple was happy again for a few more weeks. Then heartbreakingly, she broke up with Jones-Fosu for a second time, but he wasn't going down without a fight. Instead he broke out a smooth dance routine to Jordin Sparks ft. Chris Brown's "No Air," to win his girl back. Just as Jones-Fosu put in the effort to get back together with his pretend girlfriend, students learned that they should never give up on the members in their organization or workplace that they supervise. Everyone is a valuable asset and should be treated as such.

After the presentation, students were able to mingle with group members from various business student organizations such as the American Marketing Association, Gamma Iota Sigma, Beta Alpha Psi, and the Superior Fund. Students also learned more about the various business programs offered such as the Business Professions Passport Program, the Mentorship Program, and Internships. If you were unable to attend the kick-off and want to join any of the student organizations or business programs, please contact Jody Lindberg.
