The ASNMU Judiciary is defined in Article IV of the ASNMU Constitution. The Judiciary has the unique role of determining the constitutionality of actions taken by ASNMU members, interpreting our Constitution, impeachment hearings, and appeals concerning elections and referenda. The group handles any inquiries involving qualifications of ASNMU members or interpretations of sections from the Constitution and/or Bylaws. The Judiciary also swears in all members of ASNMU.

The ASNMU Judiciary consists of five members. One member serves as a chair and the other four serve as voting members. Each member is appointed by the President of ASNMU, followed by a three-fourths vote of the General Assembly.

ASNMU Judiciary provides a great experience in understanding legal and formal terms used in documents as well as an enjoyable time with a small group of other students.

If you are interested in joining the ASNMU Judiciary, view the apply section. If you meet the requirements and we have an open seat, we will contact you to set up an interview. Justices serve two year terms.

In order for the Judiciary to fully respond to any questions, one of the following forms must be submitted:

ASNMUJ Inquiry Form

Appeals

The Inquiry Form is to request clarification of either the Constitution or Bylaws, in regards to a concern you have about a fellow member's actions or personal duties in regards to ASNMU. This form requires no formal hearing.

ASNMUJ Appeal Form

The Appeals Form is to request a constitutional review of current members or committees of ASNMU, qualification of new members, or an appeal of an Elections Committee decision. This form requests the Judiciary to schedule a hearing in order to decide one of the aforementioned issues.

When sending your questions to the Judiciary for review, please be sure to fill out the correct form for the situation at hand.

All completed forms should be submitted to the Chairperson of the Judiciary.
