IMPORTANT UPDATE: NMU is making changes to orientation registration payment deferment policies due to the national financial aid delay. The Department of Education is estimating a mid-March delivery of financial aid information to colleges and universities, and we will do our best to provide your financial aid notice shortly after.

We know it’s important to continue your college planning, and registering for orientation is a critical step.

Starting February 1st, when you register for new student orientation at NMU, your orientation payment will be postponed (no payment at time of registration) until May 1st. This means you can reserve your orientation date and still have flexibility when your financial aid notice arrives.

ALL orientation sessions will have a fee of $126 per student.  Family/Guest Orientation will be $50 for the first family member/guest and $20 for any additional family member/guest.  Please see below for details.

General Information:

All new first-year students are required to pay a $126 new student orientation fee. Transfer students with over 12 credits will have the option to attend either the in-person ($126) or online orientation ($126). Students will be officially registered for a session once this fee has been paid.

Financial aid may not be applied to the New Student Orientation Fee or to any other orientation expenses. Please see the Refund Policy for information on refunds, as there are no full refunds.

Student Deferment Eligibility:

Students who meet the appropriate criteria may be eligible to have their Orientation fee deferred to their student accounts. This means that instead of paying the $126 fee upfront, the fee is added to a students' financial account to be paid at a later date. You must have filed your FAFSA for the upcoming semester and have an Student Aid Index (SAI) of 500 or lower to be eligible for fee deferment.

For those who qualify, please contact the Orientation office at 906-227-1707 to speak with a member of our team.

Please note:

       - Fee deferment cannot be determined without a FAFSA on file.
       - Orientation fees cannot be waived entirely.
