Participate in the NMU Cat Pack program!

Donate the following items to the Cat Pack program or help volunteer at Cat Packs on Thursdays at 3 p.m. at the Salvation Army and you will earn your team 10 extra points for WinterFest. These items will be donated to elementary school children in the area whose families have expressed a need for food during the weekend when their children are not receiving free or reduced meals.

  • Individual Fruit Cups (12 count)
  • Raisin boxes (6 count / 1 oz. boxes)
  • Applesauce cups (6 count)
  • Easy Mac cups (4 count)
  • PopTarts (16 count)
  • Granola bars (12 count)
  • Plastic Jars of Peanut Butter & Jelly
  • Individual Packets of Oatmeal


Want a behind the scenes experience to WinterFest?

Do you like event planning and love school spirit? Then the Special Events Committee is for you! The Special Events Committee (SEC) is looking for motivated and enthusiastic students to plan Northern's WinterFest and Homecoming. WinterFest Formal Dinner, Mr. & Ms. WinterFest Competition, WinterFest Formal, Saturday, February 18

Come join us for a fancy WinterFest Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Den. Use a meal swipe to get your dinner. Then join us after dinner for the Mr. & Ms. WinterFest Competition and the WinterFest Formal. All events will be held Den till 11 p.m. We will have a raffle with prizes from local businesses, University departments, WinterFest swag, photo booth. 



WinterFest Human Sled Dog Races, Tug-Of-War, and Winter Obstacle Course, Sunday February 19

Come join us at the Vandament Arena for a fun afternoon of competitive games. Help your team make the most creative sled for Human Sled Dog Races, be the strongest team to win the Tug-Of-War competition and be the fastest team to complete the Winter Obstacle Course. 




WinterFest Airband Competition, Monday February 20

Join us for a fun night of performances from Resident Halls, Student Organizations, NMU Hip Hop Dance Crew. Join us and Double Trouble in Jamrich 1100 at 7 p.m. for fun night. Also be one of the first 100 people in line to receive a free WinterFest Cup!




WinterFest Open Skate: Wednesday, February 22

From 7-10 p.m. at Lakeview Arena, Open Skate features Double Trouble DJs, skate rentals for $3, but if you have your own skates it is appreciated if you bring them as supplies are limited. The event is open to the NMU and Marquette community members. Concessions will also be available!

Come join us under the big white tent, we will have heaters to keep you warm, hot chocolate, & Double Trouble DJs. There will be Minute to Win it games, a Mad Hatter Hat Competition, Queen of Hearts cards will be hidden around the area for you to find and then win prizes, a sign competition (groups of students will incorporate Hockey & Alice in Wonderland into one sign). Your sign will be judged at the tailgate and you will win a prize and then bring them to the game to hold up during the game. Participate in our Minute to Win it games, Mad Hatter Hat competition, and our hidden Queen of Hearts competition and be a winner you will get a chance to hit a hockey puck with a lawn flamingo and win the Grand Prize!

We will be providing a free bus ride from NMU to Michigan Tech for Saturday's Hockey game. The first 100 students to put their name on the list will be given a ride. The ride to Michigan Tech is free for students. Sign-up will start Monday, February 6th at 8 a.m. in the Center for Student Enrichment. You will only be allowed to sign your self up. Student tickets for the game will be $10 each and you can turn your money in to the Special Events Coordinator when you sign up. Any student wanting to buy a ticket for the game and wanting to ride the bus must buy their tickets with the Special Events Committee. Tickets will be handed out as you get off the bus when we get to Tech. The bus will leave at 3:30 p.m. from the Magers/Meyland parking lot # 11 and return the Lot #11 around 1 a.m. If you drive you can leave your car in Lot #11 till we get back and you won't get a ticket!
