Midyear 2025 Commencement Speakers

Faculty Speaker: Ryan Bond

Ryan Bond, senior success adviser and instructor at Northern Michigan University, was selected by students as the faculty commencement speaker for the December 13th ceremony. Ryan Bond joined NMU in 2023, splitting his time between advising and teaching German language courses and History of the Holocaust. His teaching and advising inform one another, grounded in a philosophy shaped by his own study-abroad experiences and influential undergraduate mentors. Having lived in Germany for more than eight years, he encourages students to step beyond their comfort zones and pursue meaningful intercultural experiences. Bond is passionate about helping students grow, both academically and personally, as they prepare for the next chapters of their lives.

Student Speaker: Vincent Rodkey

Vince Rodkey, a nursing major from Round Lake, Illinois, will serve as the student commencement speaker for Northern Michigan University’s December 13th ceremony. Inspired by NMU’s natural setting and hands-on nursing program, he has woven Lake Superior, an element that shaped his four years in Marquette, into the central metaphor of his speech. Rodkey gained extensive clinical experience while completing two years of ICU work at a hospital in McHenry, Illinois, where he will return to begin his nursing career after passing the NCLEX. On campus, he has been active with the Student Nurses Association and served as a stats keeper for NMU women’s varsity soccer. He credits his family for their steady support throughout his time at Northern.
