Spirit Police
February 5-14

Show off your NMU spirit throughout WinterFest! "Spirit Police" patrol campus and "ticket" individuals wearing their green and gold. Tickets are brought back to the Special Events Committee and exchanged for a free WinterFest shirt or mug. Also look for the Spirit Police at various sporting events and other student activities prior to WinterFest.

Broomball

Broomball Tournament
January 25 - February 23

Teams sweep away the stress of the semester during the annual Broomball Tournament. Coordinated by Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports, the intramural tournament begins in late January and finishes on the Saturday of WinterFest. Games will be played in the dirt parking lots behind the Superior Dome. Registration deadline: Wednesday, January 23 in 126 of the PEIF with a $10 Entry Fee. Click here for Rules and online registration where you will then click on the intramural drop down menu on the left of the page and later click on general information. From here select the broomball link. Then, if teams are participating for WinterFest points, a WinterFest entry Form must be turned in 126 of the Peif by February 12 to receives WinterFest Participation points. (WinterFest entry forms can be found at Rules and Entry forms.)


UP 200

UP 200 Sled Dog Race
Friday, February 15

A Marquette favorite, the UP 200 Sled Dog Race is a 240 mile race coordinated by the Upper Peninsula Sled Dog Association. Thousands of spectators line Washington Street to watch teams race off at the start. The race concludes Sunday in Mattson Lower Harbor Park. More information can be found at www.up200.org.

Clue
Sunday, February 17 - Friday, February 2

Mind-boggling clues are released each night throughout WinterFest, getting groups closer and closer to the WinterFest medallion hidden somewhere on Northern's main campus. As the week progresses, clues become more specific and a little easier. The hunt concludes Friday at 5 p.m. if the medallion is not found.


Ski Snowboard Day

NMU Ski and Snowboard Discount Day
Monday and Tuesday, February 18 - 19

NMU students can hit the slopes with deep discounts during the NMU Ski & Snowboard Discount Day. Hosted by Marquette Mountain, students with an NMU ID can purchase lift tickets for only $10 and rentals for $7. The discounts will be valid from 11 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. each day.

WinterFest Dinner
Monday, February 18

Don't miss a delicious themed dinner sponsored by Dining Services! Here you can celebrate being at a carnival with friends and family over a great meal from 4 -8 p.m. in the Marketplace. (The Marketplace will be closed from 2 -4 p.m.)

Open Skate

Tuesday, February 19

Come to the Berry Events Center from 6 - 9 p.m. for a night of FREE ice skating and hot chocolate! At this event you will have the chance to skate with Wildcat Willy, and NMU and USOEC athletes as well as your friends and family. There will be music provided by Double Trouble DJ's to skate along to, as well as free photos from a photo booth. Skate rentals are free of charge too, but if you have your own skates, it is highly recommended that you bring those to skate with. This event is open to NMU students, faculty, staff, and the Marquette community. So grab a friend and make your way down to the ice rink for a night of fun!

Banner Competition
Tuesday, February 19

Groups get crafty while showing support for the week's athletic events at the Banner Competition. Banners are displayed in the Berry Events Center at Open Skate Night and throughout the week's athletic games.

Airband Competition
Wednesday, February 21

Come perform or watch this exciting event! Groups will have a chance to be a rock star by reenacting  a band and performing one of their songs by lip singing with fake manmade instruments. You don't want to miss this fun event filled with singing, dancing, music, and laughter! The event will also be emceed by Double Trouble DJ's this year.


WinterFest Trivia Night
Thursday, February 21

Come test your WinterFest knowledge at WinterFest Trivia Night located in the Marketplace. This event, which is sponsored by Primetime Productions, will be a great way to show your school pride with all of your NMU knowledge as you compete for great prizes!

Euchre Tournament
Friday, February 22

Do like euchre? Do think you have what it takes to be the best WinterFest euchre player? If yes, then you should participate in the euchre tournament for a chance to win that title!

Snow Sculpture Competition
Friday, February 22

NMU students, faculty, and staff will be able to enjoy building something in the snow all week anywhere on campus. Snow sculptures will be a great way for people to show their creativity as they support NMU and WinterFest. It will also be a great way for people to enjoy being outside. After a week of snow sculpture building, the Special Events Committee will go around and judge the sculptures on Friday to determine the best sculpture built. So, enjoy the snow while competing to build something that demonstrates NMU pride!


Human Sled Dog Race

Human Sled-Dog Races
Saturday, February 23

A WinterFest tradition that was revived in 2008, the Human Sled-Dog Races challenge team's speed and creativity. Teams of five pull a rider along a circular course using either a store-bought or homemade sled. Past sleds have incorporated skis, a grocery cart and even a love seat. The Location of the event will be the field outside Payne/Halverson Hall.
