Be the first group to find the WinterFest Medallion hidden somewhere on campus! Clues will be posted via Facebook throughout the week of WinterFest.

 

Friday, February 17

UP 200 Sled Dog Races Start
7:00 p.m., Downtown Marquette

A Marquette favorite, the UP 200 Sled Dog Race is a 240 mile race coordinated by the Upper Peninsula Sled Dog Association. Thousands of spectators line Washington Street to watch teams race off at the start. The race concludes Sunday in Mattson Lower Harbor Park. More information can be found at www.up200.org.

Saturday, February 18

 

WinterFest Formal Dinner
6:30 p.m., Wildcat Den

Join us dressed up in your fancy clothes for a buffet style dinner. You can use your Meal Plan or pay $10.25 for dinner and dessert. Following dinner will be the Mr. & Ms. WinterFest Competition, and the WinterFest Formal. We encourage you to informally RSVP through our Facebook event to let us know if you are coming to Dinner https://www.facebook.com/events/870868756394180/

Mr. & Ms. WinterFest Competition
7:30 p.m., Wildcat Den

Join us for a night of Wildcats competing for Mr. & Ms. WinterFest. There will be a talent portion, theme wear and formal wear portion that competitors will participate the night of! Entry forms for the competition are due by 5 p.m. Monday, February 6. Interviews will be held between Monday, February 6, and Friday, February 10. We will also have an informational meeting on Tuesday, January 31, at 7:30 p.m. in the Back Room (1213 University Center).

WinterFest Formal 
8:30 p.m., Wildcat Den

A night of dancing, photo booths and much more. Join us from 8:30 p.m - 11 p.m. in the Wildcat Den for a fun night, so pull out those fancy dresses and dust off those tuxedoes. We also ask that you bring in food items for Cat Packs (the list is on the home page for WinterFest) and we will give you 5 points for every 10 items (with a max of 100 points) per team.

Sunday, February 19

Winter Obstacle Course
1 p.m., Vandament Arena

Returning for the third year is the Winter Obstacle Course. Teams of ten will make their way through a series of winter-themed tasks and the team that completes the course the fastest will win.

 

Human Sled Dog Races
Follows immediately after Winter Obstacle Course, Outside Vandament Arena

WinterFest tradition that was revived in 2008, the Human Sled-Dog Races challenge a team's speed and creativity. Teams of five pull a rider along a course using a homemade sled. Past sleds have incorporated skis, a grocery cart and even a love seat. The location of the event will be outside on the backside of Vandament Arena.

Tug-Of-War
Follows immediately after Winter Obstacle Course, Outside Vandament Arena

Bringing together a childhood favorite and the snow/ice behind Vandament Arena, teams of 10 will compete in a single elimination tournament.

Campus Cinema presents "Alice in Wonderland"
6 p.m., Jamrich 1100

Watch the movie on the big screen and win some WinterFest prizes. For every person that comes from your hall/student organization, you will receive 1 point with a maximum of 100 points for WinterFest. 

Women for Women Hair Drive

Join us for a week-long hair drive. Keep a look out for the list of salons that will be cutting hair for donations. Make sure to write your name, hall/student organization and how much hair you donated after you get your hair cut. Eight inches is the minimum amount of hair that you can donate. 

 

Monday, February 20

NMU Ski and Snowboard Discount Day
11 a.m. - 8:30 p.m., Marquette Mountain

NMU students can hit the slopes with deep discounts during the NMU Ski & Snowboard Discount Day. Hosted by Marquette Mountain, students with an NMU ID can purchase lift tickets for only $21. The discounts will be valid from 11 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Airband Competition
7 p.m., Jamrich 1100

Come perform or watch this exciting event! Groups will have a chance to be a rock star by reenacting a band and performing one of their songs by lip syncing with fake instruments. You don't want to miss this fun event filled with singing, dancing, music, and laughter! The event will also be emceed by Double Trouble DJ's. Be one of the first 150 people in line to receive a FREE WinterFest cup and sticker!

Tuesday, February 21

NMU Ski and Snowboard Discount Day
11 a.m. - 8:30 p.m., Marquette Mountain

NMU students can hit the slopes with deep discounts during the NMU Ski & Snowboard Discount Day. Hosted by Marquette Mountain, students with an NMU ID can purchase lift tickets for only $21. The discounts will be valid from 11 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday, February 22

Open Skate Night
7 - 10 p.m., Lakeview Arena

Come to Lakeview Arena for a night of ice skating! You will have the chance to skate with Wildcat Willy and NMU and Olympic athletes, as well as your friends and family. There will be music provided by Double Trouble DJ's to skate along to, as well as a free photo booth. Skate rentals are $3, but if you have your own skates, it is highly recommended that you bring those. This event is open to NMU students, faculty, staff, and the Marquette community. Grab a friend and make your way down to the ice rink for a night of fun!

Friday, February 24

WinterFest Tailgate
Area between the Berry and PEIF, (in front of parking lot 60, next to the Student Entrance for hockey games), 5-7 p.m

Set up your own party in the parking lot or join us under the big white tent - we will have heaters to keep you warm, hot chocolate, & Double Trouble DJs. There will be "Minute to Win It" games and a Mad Hatter Hat Competition. Queen of Hearts cards will be hidden around the area for you to find and win prizes. We'll also have a sign competition (groups of students will incorporate hockey & Alice in Wonderland into a sign) which will be judged at the tailgate for prizes, and then bring them to hold up during the hockey game. We will also have a Mad Hatter Hat Competition. Get creative and make your own Mad Hatter Hat to be judged and then wear it to the game! Be a winner in our "Minute to Win It' games, Mad Hatter Hat Competition, and our hidden Queen of Hearts competition, and you will get a chance to hit a hockey puck with a lawn flamingo at the NMU vs. MTU hockey game and win a basket of goodies!

Saturday, February 25

NMU Bus to MTU 
Leaving at 3:30 p.m. from Magers/Meyland Parking Lot #11

We will be providing a free bus ride for NMU students from NMU to Michigan Tech for Saturday's hockey game. The first 100 students to put their name on the list will have a seat. Sign-up will start Monday, February 6, at 8 a.m. in the Center for Student Enrichment (1205 UC). You will only be allowed to sign yourself up (ID is required). Student tickets for the game are $10 each and you must be paid when you sign up. If you sign up to ride the bus, you must buy your tickets with the Special Events Committee. The bus will leave at 3:30 p.m. from the Magers/Meyland, parking lot (Lot #11), and return to Lot #11 around 1 a.m. If you drive to the bus pick-up location, you can leave your car in Lot #11 until we get back, and you won't get a ticket!
