Spirit Police
February 7-16

Show off your NMU spirit throughout WinterFest! "Spirit Police" patrol campus and "ticket" individuals wearing their green and gold. Tickets are brought back to the Special Events Committee and exchanged for a free WinterFest shirt or other great prize. Also look for the Spirit Police at various sporting events and other student activities prior to WinterFest.

Broomball

Broomball Tournament
January 30 - February 25

Teams sweep away the stress of the semester during the annual Broomball Tournament. Coordinated by Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports, the intramural tournament begins in late January and finishes on the Saturday of WinterFest.Games will be played in the dirt parking lots behind the Superior Dome. Registration deadline: Wednesday, January 25 in 126 of the PEIF with a $10 Entry Fee. UP 200

UP 200 Sled Dog Race
Friday, February 17

A Marquette favorite, the UP 200 Sled Dog Race is a 240 mile race coordinated by the Upper Peninsula Sled Dog Association. Thousands of spectators line Washington Street to watch teams race off at the start. The race concludes Sunday in Mattson Lower Harbor Park. More information can be found at www.up200.org.

Clue

Mind-boggling clues are released each night throughout WinterFest, getting groups closer and closer to the WinterFest medallion hidden somewhere on Northern's main campus. As the week progresses, clues become more specific and a little easier. The hunt concludes Friday at 5 p.m. if the medallion is not found.


Airband Competition

Airband Competition
Monday, February 20

Since 1981, the Airband Competition has been the premiere performing venue of WinterFest. Wardrobe, lyrics and "instruments" are used to put on the ultimate concert experience. The competition is emceed by Double Trouble DJs and features special guest performances and prize giveaways.

Open Skate

Open Skate
Tuesday, February 21

Enjoy a night on the ice! The annual Open Skate features free hot chocolate, music and skating with NMU and USOEC athletes in the Berry Events Center. The event is open to NMU students, faculty, staff and Marquette community members. Skate rentals are available at no charge.


Ski Snowboard Day

NMU Discount Ski & Snowboard Day
Wednesday, February 22

NMU students can hit the slopes with deep discounts during the NMU Discount Ski & Snowboard Day. Hosted by Marquette Mountain, students with an NMU ID can purchase lift tickets for only $8 and rentals for $7. The discounts will be valid from 12 - 8:30 p.m.


ICE AGE DINNER

Don't miss a delicious theme dinner sponsored by Dining Services! Here you can celebrate being trapped in an Ice Age with friends over a fine meal from 4 - 8 p.m. in the Market Place.  (The Market Place will be closed from 2 - 4 p.m.) Leave full and happy as you refuel to face the cold that an Ice Age brings!


Comedians Tracey Ashley and Pete Lee

Laugh away the cold with Primetime Productions as they host comedians Tracey Ashley and Pete Lee. This event is FREE! Tracey Ashley has been a comedy club favorite and earning the prestigious nomination by Campus Activities Magazine as Best Female Performer in 2008. She also has recieved honored invites to perform at The Las Vegas Comedy Festival, HBO's "The Luck 21" Contest in 2007 and was a semi-finalist on NBC's Last Comic Standing. Pete Lee is one of the stars that perform on NBC's Last Comic Standing. He is a regular on the Bob and Tom Radio show, has been a standout at the Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival, and has performed for over a hundred colleges and universities. With these two comedians you are bound to have fun and laugh!


Wildcat Hockey vs. Lake Superior State

Cheer on the Wildcats as they go head to head against Lake Superior State. The men's game begins at 7:35 p.m. More information on Wildcat Athletics

Banner Competition
Friday, February 24

Groups get crafty while showing support for the week's athletic events at the Banner Competition. Banners are displayed in the Berry Events Center throughout the weekend games.


Snow Sculpture Competition
Sunday, February 19 - Friday, February 24

NMU students, faculty, and staff will be able to enjoy building something in the snow all week anywhere on campus. Snow sculptures will be a great way for people to show their creativity as they support NMU and WinterFest. It will also be a great way for people to enjoy being outside. After a week of snow sculpture building, the Special Events Committee will go around and judge the sculptures on Friday to determine the best sculpture built. So, enjoy the snow while competing to build something that demonstrates NMU pride!

WInterFest Student Discount Day for The Near East
Saturday, February 24

Performances will be held February 21 - 25, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at the Panowski Black Box. A special WinterFest Discount for NMU students will be available on Saturday, February 25 at 7:30 p.m. for half-priced tickets. To purchase tickets, contact the Forest Roberts Theatre box office at (906) 227-2082.


Human Sled-Dog Races
Sunday, February 26

A WinterFest tradition that was revived in 2008, the Human Sled-Dog Races challenge team's speed and creativity. Teams of five pull a rider along a circular course using either a store-bought or homemade sled. Past sleds have incorporated skiis, a grocery cart and even a love seat. The Location of the event will be the field outside Payne/Halverson Hall.
