Outstanding graduates

Each year, the School of Education, Leadership and Public service department recognizes two outstanding graduates; one who is a graduate student and one who is a graduating senior. The spring 2013 awards winners are as follows:

Outstanding graduate student, Wendy Warmuth

Wendy Warmuth

Wendy is the superintendent of the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District. Prior to her leadership as DIISD superintendent, Wendy was the director of finance for 24 years, where she served for the last two years in finance for three local school districts in a consortium model. Wendy’s bachelor’s degree is in business administration with an accounting background. She also has a master’s degree from MSU in education. Wendy graduated from NMU in December 2012 with her master’s in educational administration. Wendy is the mother of two grown sons and lives in Iron Mountain with her husband. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, camping and collecting vintage automobiles.



Outstanding graduating senior, Jacy Bowman

Jacy Bowman

Jacy graduated from the NMU Honors Program and the School of Education in December with highest honors. She majored in ­integrated science and minored in French. She was a leader in the School of Education; demonstrated by her participation and leadership role in the Marquette/Alger Reading Council student group. She planned professional activities for pre-service teachers and was a student leader at the Michigan Reading Association state conference. Jacy was a campus Girl Scout troop leader during her time at NMU. She also completed a year- long study abroad in Strasbourg, France, where she had a teaching assistantship. Jacy received numerous scholarship awards and was on the dean’s list for six semesters.
