|Dr. Lesley Larkin
Acting Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dr. Lesley Larkin joined the NMU faculty in 2008. She has taught courses in composition, American literature, African American literature, gender and literature, and critical theory. She is the author of Race and the Literary Encounter: Black Literature from James Weldon Johnson to Percival Everett and is drafting a second book titled North American Literature in the Genomic Age. She has served on numerous committees, and is currently chairing the president’s committee on diversity and co-chairing the provost search committee.
Dr. Larkin holds a master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Washington and a bachelor’s degree from Linfield College.
|Dr. Dale Kapla
Assistant Provost for Undergraduate Programming and Faculty Affairs
Dr. Dale Kapla accepted the appointment of assistant provost for undergraduate programming and faculty affairs in September 2012. He provides leadership in undergraduate administrative needs, faculty affairs, and contract maintenance.
He has served the university as a department head for the past five years, most recently as head of the Political Science and Criminal Justice departments. Prior to his employment at NMU, Dr. Kapla held law enforcement positions with the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department and Marquette Police Department.
Dr. Kapla holds a Ph.D. in political science (public policy) from West Virginia University and a master’s degree in public administration and bachelor of science degree in criminal justice and security administration from Northern Michigan University.
