John Bruggink (Biology), former NMU graduate student Sarah Lou Malick and Jerrold Belant from Mississippi State University were coauthors of a paper recently published in The Natural Areas Journal. The article is titled "Effects of forest patch characteristics on small mammal species composition, Grand Sable Dunes, Michigan." Species inventory is considered an important component of natural resource management in National Park System units. The trio trapped small mammals in forested patches in the Grand Sable Dunes at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore during 2007 and 2009 to inventory species occurrences and test predictions of island biogeography theory in a terrestrial landscape.

Eileen Smit, Teresa Delpier, Sheri Giordana (Nursing) and Mary Jane Tremethick (Health, Physical Education and Recreation) collaborated on a recently published article titled "Learning and helping: Benefits of international nurse practitioner student experiences." It appeared in the Online Journal of Cultural Competence in Nursing and Healthcare.
