Julie Rochester (HPER) and NMU students Eric Lengas and Megan Shipp joined a record number of Michigan athletic trainers who participated in the National Athletic Training Association's "Hit the Hill" day in Washington, D.C. Eleven certified athletic trainers and six athletic training students comprised the Michigan delegation (pictured), which met with legislative aides and assistants from the offices of nine congressmen and two senators.

Rochester is president of the Great Lakes Athletic Training Association. In conjunction with “Hit the Hill Day,” Congressman Ed Towns has introduced the Athletic Trainers’ Equal Access to Medicare Act of 2009 (ATEAM) HR 1137 into the House of Representatives. This bill would improve patient access to athletic trainers, allow physician choice of a wider range of qualified health care professionals and restore the ability of athletic trainers to work incident-to a physician.
