Achievements

Jeff Gagnon and Kelly Simon (Upward Bound) took eight of their top Upward Bound students to the Michigan Chapter of the Mid-America Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel Leadership Conference held this spring in Grand Rapids. Students represented area high schools in various leadership positions and served as role models representing Northern's Upward Bound program.

Larry Pagel (Business) will serve a second term as chair of the Academic Senate for the 2007-08 academic year. The elections were held at the April 24 senate meeting.

Ray Ventre (English) was recently elected secretary of the Michigan Conference of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) and secretary of the Professors Fund for Educational Issues. In addition to his new state responsibilities, he is also a voting representative and delegate to the National AAUP Assembly of State Conferences and to the Collective Bargaining Congress in Washington, D.C. Ventre will be responsible for taking and maintaining the minutes for all meetings of the AAUP executive board, state conference and PFEI board.
