Faculty, Students Receive MAB Awards
NMU students and faculty
attended the Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB) annual
awards ceremony March 8 in Lansing.
Pictured in the first
photo are (from left) Dwight Brady (CAPS) and
NMU alumnus Nick Van Court, who won a TV broadcast excellence
award in the news special category for their documentary, Michigan's
Gray Wolf: Ghost of the Big Timber.
The
second photo shows Charles Ganzert (CAPS) and
NMU senior Adam Czarnecki. Ganzert won a broadcast excellence
award in the radio special interest programming category for "West
African Musician Mady Kouyate, Interview and Performance,"
which he produced with Jane Cisluycis (WNMU-FM),
NMU senior Peter Albrecht, and members of the advanced audio production
class. Czarnecki received an honorable mention in the radio public
service announcement category for a "Get-Out-The-Vote"
PSA he produced for the American Association of University Women.
Other NMU entries were
honored in the "Market 4" competition, which is comprised
of radio and television stations in Marquette, Escanaba, Alpena,
and other markets of comparable size. All were broadcast on either
WNMU-TV or WNMU-FM.
A "Meet the Candidate"
television program sponsored by ASNMU student government earned
an honorable mention in the talk show category. The award recipients
are junior media production and new technology major Anna Patrick
of Marquette, and senior broadcasting major Rachel Melnick of
Morton Grove, Ill.
