Donald Zalewski and
Jane Jamsen (Mathematics and Computer Science)
presented "Algebraic Reasoning: No K-12 Teacher Left Behind"
at the Fall Educators' Conference held Oct. 8 at NMU. The Michigan
Curriculum Frameworks and Grade Level Expectations clearly state
that children need to develop algebraic reasoning skills. This session
explored some activities that the teachers can use to introduce,
develop and foster these skills at all levels from K to 12.
Kia Jane Richmond
(English) presented "Teacher Reflection and Multiple Intelligences"
at the National Council of Teachers of English annual convention
Nov. 19 in Indianapolis. The panel presentation with Mary-Kay Wildenhain
Belant (NMU graduate student), Kilian McCurrie and Janice Neuleib
was part of a college colloquia titled "The Teacher in Writing
Instruction."
Elda Tate
(Music) wrote the words and music for "Henrik Ibsen-Peeru Guntu."
Tate collaborated with former NMU professor Cecilia J. Pang on a
Kabuki-style adaptation of the classic Ibsen work. It was presented
by the University of Colorado department of theater and dance Nov.
18-20 and Dec. 1-5 in Boulder.
