The NMU School of Nursing requires that you receive certification by the American Heart Association (AHA) in the BLS (Basic Life Support) Provider course. No other training will be accepted. You must upload a copy of your card to your Castlebranch.com account. Certification must be renewed every two years and your new card must be uploaded to Castlebranch.com.
Local CPR courses are offered at the locations below, but you may receive training at any location providing training approved by the American Heart Association for the BLS Provider course.
BLS (BASIC LIFE SUPPORT) PROVIDER/HEARTCODE BLS CERTIFICATION COURSE
This course is appropriate for professionals and professionals in training in the health fields. Students must complete both Part I on-line session, and Part II Instructor-Led in-person session.
- Part I, Online module is completed first. The online completion certificate must be presented to the Instructor upon arrival to the hands-on- in person skills and testing session (Part II). Register for on-line Part I at https://elearning.heart.org/course/21 ($28.50 paid to AHA). Approximately 90-100 minutes to complete. On-line modules may be completed individually. After successful completion of the on-line portion, students must attend a structured Instructor-led hands-on skills practice and testing session.
- Part II, instructor-led hands-on, in person practice and testing session focuses on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, and testing. Approximately 2 hours to complete, depending on class size and level of experience. Pre-registration required.
Textbook ISBN #978-1-61669-407-4, 2015 or newer edition. Students taking certification courses must have access to the correct textbook, before, during, and after the course.
