Presentations

Mary Jane Tremethick (HPER) and Eileen Smit (Nursing) presented "Student perceptions of capacity building in a short-term faculty-led program" at the 20th

International Union for Health Promotion and Education Conference in Geneva, Switzerland this summer. Tremethick also recorded two individual presentations at a workshop presented for the Sharjah Medical District, Ministry of Health in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates: "Behavior change with adults and older adults: Long-term healthy choices" and "Healthy aging: Providing for the care of elders and pressure sore prevention and management." She is pictured at right with Amina Sandal,  MPH, Ph.D., the district's health education director.

At the Writing Across the Peninsula Conference held Sept. 24 in Houghton, Liz Monske (English) led a plenary session titled "In the Range of Possibilities: Incorporating Academic Service Learning into the Writing

Classroom." Three Masters of Fine Arts Fellows—Robby Cole, Jason Shrontz and Andy Hilleman—gave a panel presentation at the same conference. In "Extending the Range of Composition: Teaching Composition Online," they addressed their experiences developing and coordinating online composition for first-time instructors or instructors preparing to modify their courses to fit an online model. All three taught writing online for the English Department during summer session 2010.
