Krista Clumpner's
(AIS-Library) article, "Librarians with laptops look
savvy in Operation TLC," was published in Computers in
Libraries. Clumpner highlighted librarian involvement in the
laptop computer distribution at NMU.
Randall Jensen
(HPER) and former graduate student William Ebben collaborated
on an article titled, "Effect of complex training rest interval
on vertical jump performance." It was published in the Journal
of Strength and Conditioning Research. The study examined the
effect of different rest intervals on vertical jump performance
when combining jumping with the squat movement of resistance training.
Results indicated that jumping immediately after the squat decreased
performance, but jumping four minutes after squatting may increase
performance.
Graduate student Craig
Biwer, Jensen and Phil Watts (HPER)
had an article based on Biwer's thesis published in the Journal
of Strength and Conditioning Research. It was titled "The
effect of creatine on treadmill running with high intensity levels"
and the study indicated that supplementing creatine monohydrate
did not enhance running at alternate high and low intensity during
a 20-minute exercise bout.
Watts
wrote
an article,
"Anthropometry of young competitive sport rock climbers,"
that was published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.
The research project was part of his 1999 Peter White Scholar
award, with additional support from the College of Professional
Studies. Watts said it is the first study anywhere to describe characteristics
in young competitive climbers. Also involved in the project were
Graduate Assistant Lanae Joubert, two former graduate
students--Aaron Lish and Brad Wilkins--and a Freshman Fellow, Jeremy
Mast.
