Women's Ice Hockey - General Information

The NMU Women's Hockey Team was established in 2000. We are a member of the CCWHA (Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association) Division II, which includes Michigan State University, University of Michigan - Flint, University of Notre Dame, Aquinas College, Loyola University of Chicago, Central Michigan University, and Lake Superior State University. We are also a part of the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association) which is an organization of over 415 college and university affiliated programs that provides structure, regulates operations, and promotes the quality of collegiate ice hockey.  In addition to playing teams within our conference, we also schedule games against other Division I and II programs within the ACHA.

Dues are around $1500 depending on the number of players each year. This covers all ice time, conference dues, league dues, and referees in addition to transportation and lodging. However, players are expected to purchase team warm-ups and pay for their meals on road trips. Members are also required to purchase a PEIF pass for the Fall/Winter semesters.

Participants Must Supply
All of their own hockey equipment.  Each player is required to have a black helmet, black pants, and green or black gloves.  Jerseys and socks are provided by the team.

Generally includes Lower Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota. The team occasionally travels on Fridays, so if possible we recommend that players do not schedule Friday classes.

Official tryouts will be held on Monday, August 31st from 9:30-11:00pm and on Tuesday, September 1st from 11:00pm-12:30am. Cuts will be made immediately following the September 2nd tryout if necessary.

Each skate will be held at the Berry Events Center located near the PEIF and Superior Dome. It is asked that if you plan to attend, to please bring your class schedule for the fall, and a work schedule if you have one, so that dryland groups and times can be determined.
