McNair Scholars Program

The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program is designed to increase graduate rates and post-baccalaureate success among first generation, low income students and students who come from a minority population that is underrepresented in graduate education. We work closely with students in completing their undergraduate requirements, encouraging and supporting their entrance into graduate programs, and tracking their progress to successful completion of advanced degrees.

Preparing for Summer Research

This summer, 13 McNair Scholars will undertake an original research project. Their majors range from vocal performance/speech, language & hearing sciences to education to physics. We're pretty excited to watch these promising undergraduates take their first steps into the world of research and scholarly work. Stay tuned on our blog: mcnairnmu.wordpress.com.

The Program

The McNair Scholars Program strives to provide students with the information and experiences that will make their graduate school transition easier and more rewarding. Find out more on how we accomplish these objectives through our program. Learn more about undergraduate research at our Youtube channel.

Students are expected to complete a summer research component as part of their participation in the program. Upon completion they are eligible to receive up to $2,500 in research stipend money and two college credits. The students in the program are what make it so unique and special to be involved in. Meet some of the scholars involved and learn about their experience as a McNair scholar at NMU.McNair scholars at NMU have a number of remarkable experiences while students and go on to tremendous success. Learn more on the program
