Max Adolphs Max was born and raised in Hancock, MI where he attended Finlandia University for two years before transferring to NMU. He is a senior in the community health program and a student building manager at the PEIF. After graduation he plans to attend graduate school to pursue a masters/PHD in public health. Olivia Ernst Olivia is a senior Graduate Bound English and German Studies double major with plans to get her PhD and become a professor, possibly pausing to teach English in Austria for a year. This will be her second semester as an FYE TA, and she's excited to do it again. She has interned for Passages North, the university's literary journal, and hopes to have her own short-stories published some day. Outside of classes and the NMU Archives, where she works, Olivia can be found swimming in Lake Superior (if the weather cooperates), or listening to music like The Beatles, Tom Waits, and Radiohead while reading a beat-up Sci-Fi paperback. |

He has been involved with research with the Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center since 2011. His research interests include brain cancer, stem cells and immune therapy. Mandy is a laboratory researcher, pooch mom, and roller derby warrior. Mandy is currently a biology undergraduate student working in the Ottem laboratory as the animal care manager and researching the role of Brain Derived Neurotropic Factor (BDNF) in neuromuscular diseases such as Lou Gehrig’s. She plans on continuing her study at Northern Michigan University as a graduate student in neuroscience. In preparation for graduate school, Mandy has been a participant of the McNair Scholars Program, gaining experience in the research process. Her interests outside of the university include animal welfare, as Mandy worked extensively at an animal shelter in Denver, Colorado, and adopted two wonderful dogs. She's now taking her talents to the skating track as a member of Marquette's roller derby, Dead River Derby, so watch out passing her in the hallways. |

Michael moved from Kalamazoo to Marquette in 2008 with his three children and his wife, Kristy, who is a nursing student at NMU. Michael works for NMU’s Communications and Marketing Department as a student manager and has served as a Teaching Assistant for the FYE program for three semesters. Michael’s interests include political activism, hiking, camping, cooking, music, and spending time with his family.
