Max Adolphs Max was born and raised in Hancock, MI where he attended Finlandia University for two years before transferring to NMU. He is a senior in the community health program and a student building manager at the PEIF. After graduation he plans to attend graduate school to pursue a masters/PHD in public health. In his spare time he enjoys exercising, playing hockey, and being outdoors. |

Heidi Babcock Heidi is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Entrepreneurship. She expects to graduate from NMU in December 2013. Heidi studied abroad in Vienna, Austria during summer semester in 2012. Stephanie Beeman Stephanie is double majoring in Psychology and Philosophy. After graduating from NMU she plans on attending graduate school for a PhD in Psychology and pursuing a career in research. This will be her first year as a Teaching Assistant for a UN100 block. After having a rewarding experience in her freshman block, she's very excited to be a part of the First Year Experience program. When Stephanie does have free time she enjoys soaking up sunshine and fresh air as well as exploring all things new. |

Sam Behrens Sam is majoring in Outdoor Recreation Leadership and Management. She is minoring in both Environmental Conservation and Social Work. She is thrilled for her first year being a T.A. She is involved with Welcome Crew, Circle K, and OORP. In her free time Sam enjoys the outdoors. She is an avid skier, and enjoys hiking, camping, and kayaking. |

Mandy Dye Mandy is in her fourth year at Northern Michigan University. She is pursuing a degree in Secondary English Education, minoring in Health education and Art and Design. Mandy is a member of NMU’s Varsity Cross Country and Track and Field teams. She is a Gold Block graduate of the Student Leader Fellowship Program and has recently joined the Superior Edge. She has been employed at NMU’s Dining Services for two years as a Barista at Stone Creek Coffee Lounge. When Mandy is not studying, running or working, she enjoys listening to and finding new music, as well as immersing herself in Marquette’s natural beauty as much as possible. |

Olivia Ernst Olivia is a senior Graduate Bound English and German Studies double major with plans to get her PhD and become a professor, possibly pausing to teach English in Austria for a year. This will be her second semester as an FYE TA, and she's excited to do it again. She has interned for Passages North, the university's literary journal, and hopes to have her own short-stories published some day. Outside of classes and the NMU Archives, where she works, Olivia can be found swimming in Lake Superior (if the weather cooperates), or listening to music like The Beatles, Tom Waits, and Radiohead while reading a beat-up Sci-Fi paperback. |

Joshua Garnett Joshua is a senior at NMU, majoring in Public Relations. This is his second year as a teaching assistant with the FYE program, and his third year working in the Multicultural Education and Resource Center. He grew up in Clarkston, MI. He has no idea what he wants to do in the future. He enjoys Wired and Discover Magazines as well as reading science and health related articles online. Weston Gleiss Weston is in his senior year at NMU. He is studying Social Studies and Mathematics and hopes to teach in a high school before pursuing higher education. He works at Greywalls Golf Course as a starter and ranger along with tutoring for the math department. He has been involved with the club lacrosse program along with numerous intramural sports. He spent last winter living in Colorado teaching skiing. He also enjoys backpacking and mountain biking. |

Rachel is a junior here at Northern Michigan University pursuing her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Rachel is from Petoskey MI and graduated from Petoskey High School in 2010. This will be Rachel’s first year as a TA, and she will be working with the UN 100 Nursing Block. She is an active member of The Student Leader Fellowship Program (SLFP) and The Student Nurses Association. Rachel’s expected graduation date is May of 2014, and she plans on pursuing a Master’s Degree in Nursing. Rachel is very excited to get started as a TA, and is eager to help the pre-nursing students this semester. |

Samantha Hawkins Samantha is a senior at NMU studying Elementary Education with a double minor in Integrated Science and Language Arts. Kyla is attending NMU to receive a BA in English and a minor in German. She has gone to Northern Michigan University for three years. She has been involved on campus through being vice president of West Hall. She is involved in Superior Edge and the Volunteer Center. Kyla is excited to share her passion for language with first year students, and help make their NMU experience more enjoyable. She hopes to become fluent in German and teach English in Europe after graduation. In her free time she likes to read, hike, watch horror movies and play her ukulele. |

Courtney Johnson Courtney is pursuing a BSN Nursing degree here at NMU. She grew up in West Ishpeming and graduated from Westwood High School in 2010. She is a first year TA here at NMU for the UN100 Nursing block classes. Courtney is an active member of the Student Nurses Association and currently holds a community chair with the student affairs committee. She is expected to graduate in May of 2014 and plans to extend her education after. Brooke currently attends Northern Michigan University as a junior and is pursuing a major in zoology with a minor in Spanish. After NMU, she will be attending graduate school for marine science with hopes to pursue a career in marine biology. While attending Northern, she has taken the initiative to step out of her box and get involved in numerous organizations around campus. Of which include: President of the Paranormal Research Team, working for the Campus Visit Program in the admissions office, member of Northern Arts and Entertainment, NMU Cheerleading, Superior Edge, Student Ambassadors, Intramural Sports, and Hunt Hall 2011 Welcome Crew. In her free time Brooke enjoys listening to music, hiking, photography, scuba diving and riding her mountain bike! Amber is a fifth year senior at NMU studying Criminal Justice and Psychology with a minor in Political Science. She will be graduating in May and plans on attending Law School at Wayne State in the fall. She would one day like to serve as a prosecuting attorney for the state. Amber is actively involved in her sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta. She has also graduated from the Student Leader Fellowship Program last year where she completed a service internship at the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter. Robert Neumann Rob graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor's of Arts in Criminal Justice and International Studies. He is now currently enrolled in the MBA program. He has served in the Army National Guard for 6 years and has taught English and performed public promotions for a Chinese language school for 5 months. He aspires to work for an international firm that deals with countries in Asia and someday hopes to be a professor. Scott is a 4th year student majoring in Biology-Physiology and a minor in Chemistry. His hometown is Gladwin, MI. He has been involved with research with the Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center since 2011. His research interests include brain cancer, stem cells and immune therapy. He has also been involved in the pre-medical club and the associated pre-health profession’s society Alpha Epsilon Delta. Scott is thrilled to be working as a UN 100 TA this fall. He will be graduating in December and hopes to attend medical school in fall 2013 to become a general surgeon. In his free time Scott enjoys racquetball, video games, snorkeling, rock climbing, movies, singing and theater. |

Mandy is a laboratory researcher, pooch mom, and roller derby warrior. Mandy is currently a biology undergraduate student working in the Ottem laboratory as the animal care manager and researching the role of Brain Derived Neurotropic Factor (BDNF) in neuromuscular diseases such as Lou Gehrig’s. She plans on continuing her study at Northern Michigan University as a graduate student in neuroscience. In preparation for graduate school, Mandy has been a participant of the McNair Scholars Program, gaining experience in the research process. Her interests outside of the university include animal welfare, as Mandy worked extensively at an animal shelter in Denver, Colorado, and adopted two wonderful dogs. She's now taking her talents to the skating track as a member of Marquette's roller derby, Dead River Derby, so watch out passing her in the hallways. |

Michael Treacy Michael holds an Associates of Applied Science degree with a concentration in English from NMU. He is currently working towards a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Native American Studies. Michael moved from Kalamazoo to Marquette in 2008 with his three children and his wife, Kristy, who is a nursing student at NMU. Michael works for NMU’s Communications and Marketing Department as a student manager and has served as a Teaching Assistant for the FYE program for three semesters. Michael’s interests include political activism, hiking, camping, cooking, music, and spending time with his family. Eventually, Michael would like to work for NMU as either an instructor or an advisor. |
