Erickson Appointed to MEDC Executive Committee

NMU President Fritz Erickson has been appointed by Governor Rick Snyder to serve on the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) executive committee.

“I’m honored to serve the Upper Peninsula and the state in this capacity,” said Erickson, whose term on the committee will end in 2023.  “This appointment fits well with Northern’s mission to support Marquette, the Upper Peninsula and Michigan. Throughout my career, I have always taken an interest in economic development work and have been fortunate to work on building many collaborative partnerships for the purpose of economic growth. I hope those past experiences will help me bring valuable insight to the table in this new role.”

The MEDC is the state’s lead advocate for overall economic growth. Its programs and services provide support for business attraction, development and acceleration; entrepreneurship; strategic economic partnerships, talent enhancement and jobs; urban and community development; tourism; and arts, cultural, film and digital media initiatives. The MEDC’s executive committee is charged with providing policy direction and guidance to the MEDC regarding economic development and initiatives. It also oversees the MEDC corporate budget.
