Northern’s 2013 Homecoming celebration begins with the annual Dead River Games for students on Sunday, Sept. 15. It will culminate with the parade, all-alumni reception, game day community block party and football game later in the week. Employees and community members are encouraged to participate in the festivities.

The Homecoming parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, on Third Street. The rain date for the parade is the morning of Saturday, Sept. 21. Also on Friday night, the All-Alumni Reception with free appetizers and a cash bar will take place from 6:3-8:30 p.m. in the lobby and lower level of the Landmark Inn.

Saturday’s events include the NMU Game Day community block party from noon to 2:30 p.m. It features food vendors, free inflatable games, face painting, pony rides and student performances. There will also be a special appearance by the NMU Marching Band and opportunities to interact with Wildcat Willy, along with NMU coaches and athletes. The celebration leads up to the Wildcats’ Homecoming football game against Ohio Dominican at 3 p.m. in the Superior Dome. The fifth quarter post-game party starts at 6 p.m. in the Holiday Inn.

Several designated groups will participate in special activities during the celebration. They include the 50th reunion group for classes 1962-64; a cheerleader reunion; Recapalooza, for current and former staff members of Recreational Sports; a Buck Nystrom group to honor the legendary football coach; a men’s swimming and diving team reunion; and Alpha Kappa Psi.
