Julie Rochester and Chris Kirk (HPER) presented at the UP Concussion Summit April 29 at Upfront and Company in Marquette. The presentation addressed local, state and national concussion legislation that is being proposed and/or implemented. Discussion centered on new Michigan legislation that has been recently introduced in Lansing and also on the Michigan High School Athletics Association (MHSAA) guidelines for concussion management and student-athlete return to play decision-making. The summit attracted more than 100 attendees from across the Upper Peninsula, including athletic trainers, physical therapists, athletic directors, coaches, EMTs and physicians. NMU alumnus and nationally recognized concussion expert Dr. Mark Lovell also participated in the event while in Marquette to speak at commencement.
