At the annual meeting of the Midwest Criminal Justice Association in Chicago, Dale Kapla and Greg Warchol (Criminal Justice) presented results of their research on an opinion survey that questioned students about legally carrying concealed firearms on a college campus. Kapla, Warchol and Robert Hanson (Criminal Justice) also conducted a roundtable panel at the meeting that focused on the nature of establishing professional relationships with foreign universities. Items discussed included faculty and student exchanges, research visits for student study abroad opportunities and memorandums of agreement.

Kia Jane Richmond (English) presented "Transforming Teaching Through Empathy: Rethinking Dispositions in English Education" at the annual conference of the National Council of Teachers of English, held last month in Orlando, Fla. At the same conference, Richmond represented the Michigan Council of Teachers of English in accepting the NCTE Affiliate Excellence Award, which honors affiliates for programming and their efforts to promote teaching improvement. She also chaired the Edwin M. Hopkins Award Committee and presented the award.
