Phil Watts and Randall Jensen (HPER) presented research at the fourth International Congress on Science and Skiing Dec. 14-19 in St. Christoph am Arlberg, Austria. The event was hosted by the Austrian Ski Academy. Watts and Jensen (left to right) are pictured enjoying some down time on a cross-country ski trail in nearby St. Anton. They presented the following research at the conference:
"Economy responses to stride frequency variations during diagonal stride treadmill roller-skiing" by Watts and Vicki Asmus, an NMU exercise science graduate working as a physician's assistant in Marquette.
"Recovery heart rate during graded stage testing" by Jensen, Watts and NMU exercise science graduates and Wildcat cross-country ski coaches Sten Fjeldheim and Jenny Ryan.
"Relationship of knee extension strength, flexibility and anthropometric variables to alpine ski racing success" by Ben Crocket, a graduate student in exercise science, and Jensen.
