Students Receive BOT Awards

Three NMU students received Board of Trustees Student Achievement Awards for 2006. They were recognized at the May 5 board meeting.

Jane Stieber (left), a biology major from Boyne City, Mich., received the Outstanding Female Graduating Senior award. She was recognized for her efforts on NMU’s cross country team, as well as her contributions to a biology research lab pertaining to genetic diversity among loon populations.

             

JaneAnne Belmore of Independence, Miss., received the Outstanding Student award. Belmore is a senior speech communication major who was nominated for her leadership as treasurer of Model United Nations and president of Platform Personalities. She also served as an on-campus apartment representative to ASNMU.

             

Gavin Telfer of Whitewater, Wis., received the Outstanding Male Graduating Senior award. He is an electronic journalism major who was recognized for his contributions to the Student Leader Fellowship Program, the Public Relations Student Society of America and Radio X.

             

The Board of Trustees Student Achievement Awards are presented annually to recognize students for their leadership contributions and academic excellence, and for making a significant contribution to the quality of life at NMU through their involvement in extracurricular activities or through work in a university department.
