Wellness Activities at NMU

 

Northern faculty and staff are invited to participate in Family Wellness Week from Sunday, Oct. 24, to Saturday, Oct. 30. Those who sign up will be given free access to the PEIF all week. The schedule of special activities is as follows:

  • Sunday: “Family Float Fun” from 2-5 p.m. in the diving pool or lap pool
  • Monday: Resistance band demonstration from 7-8 p.m. on the second floor of the recreation center
  • Tuesday: Weight room orientation from 6-9 p.m. at the weight room attendant station (on old tennis court)
  • Wednesday: Rock climbing from 7-9 p.m. Participants must either wear their own gym shoes or rent rock climbing shoes from the outdoor recreation challenge program office for $2
  • Thursday: Kayak demonstration from 7-8 p.m. in the diving pool
  • Friday: Open climb from 5-7 p.m. at the rock wall
  • Saturday: Group fitness demonstration from 10 a.m.- noon in the dance studio

On a related note, the NMU “Celebrate Wellness” 11-week program is under way. It is a self-scoring system where points are earned for five categories: fitness, health risk appraisals, behavioral, use of NMU health care system and activities and expanding knowledge of personal awareness.

A random drawing is held each week for $25 gift certificates from various businesses. Eligibility for the drawing requires a minimum of 50 points at the end of each week. For more information, contact Kelly Lawson at 227-2644.
