Your Health Lecture Series Sponsors

The “Your Health” Lecture Series is a unique educational partnership between two universities, a regional hospital, a regional health education corporation and a major statewide insurance provider. The goal of the series to feature health researchers who can speak on a wide variety of topics of interest and importance to the Upper Peninsula population.  Most of the general public presentations take place on the Northern Michigan University campus in Marquette. While the speakers are in the U.P. for the series, they also meet with NMU classes and present at Marquette General Health System to the medical and laboratory staffs.

Northern Michigan University

Located in Marquette, Mich., across the street from Marquette General Hospital, Northern Michigan University is a regional, comprehensive master’s university that offers more than 160 degree programs to a student body of about 9,000. NMU is known for its high-tech learning environment, being one of the largest mobile device universities in the United States. It is also a Carnegie recognized “Community-engaged Campus,” one of about 200 in the nation  NMU and MGHS collaborate on several initiatives, including the awarding-winning Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center.  

Superior Health Foundation

Superior Health Foundation is a stand-alone non-profit and is not affiliated in any way with Duke LifePoint or Marquette General, with a mission is assist with unmet healthcare needs, health education, and programs and research on preventing illness and promoting health. That mission may include supporting (a) the unmet healthcare needs of the indigent and uninsured; (b) healthcare education programs; (c) supporting programs and research which have the primary purpose of preventing and reducing illness and disease; and (d) other programs to promote the health, education and welfare of the community.

U.P. Health System - Marquette

 

As a 222-bed specialty care hospital, UP Health System – Marquette receives patients from across the UP and provides care in 65 specialties and subspecialties. Its medical staff of more than 200 doctors works as a team with its more than 1,800 employees in caring for approximately 9,000 inpatients and more than 350,000 outpatients per year.

Michigan State University – College of Human Medicine, Upper Peninsula Region Campus

Michigan State University College of Human Medicine has a national reputation for its history of innovation and excellence in medical student education. The college is ranked among the nation’s top 20 medical schools in primary care and No. 7 for best programs in rural medicine by U.S. News & World Report. The university is located in East Lansing, Mich. The MSU College of Human Medicine has a satellite campus in the Upper Peninsula, based at Marquette General Hospital, through the Upper Peninsula Health Education Corporation.
