Biographical Profile

Keith Norton joined the aviation faculty in the Technology and Occupational Sciences Department as an Assistant Professor in the fall of 2009. He earned his Master of Commercial Aviation degree from Delta State University, Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Kentucky University, and a certificate in Aviation Maintenance Technology from the University of Alaska Anchorage. He brings to NMU many years of aviation experience as a pilot, mechanic, and maintenance instructor. In addition, he has a comprehensive background in software development and also in developing, implementing, and marketing distance learning. Keith taught at the University of Alaska Anchorage from 2005 through 2007 and is the former owner and operator of an aircraft restoration business that specialized in overhauling single-engine aircraft and their components.

Mr. Norton has been led the implementation of Active Service Learning within the aviation program by partnering with the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).  This provides students with multiple opportunities to work with EAA mechanics on EAA's fleet of flying aircraft.  In addition, he has worked to expand the program's relationship with local and regional employers, most notably Enstrom Helicopter Corporation.
