When revenge eludes him, Sweeney swears vengeance on the entire human race, murdering as many people as he can, while his business associate Mrs. Lovett bakes the bodies into meat pies and sells them to the unsuspecting public. Just in time for the Halloween season, this thrilling masterpiece is sure to delight and terrify.

Paul Truckey (Sweeney Todd): Acting credits include leading roles in over 50 productions, most notably the roles of Grantaire, Javert and Thenardier in the Broadway and National touring companies of Les Misérables, Fredrik in A Little Night Music for the Pine Mountain Music Festival, Pete the Barber in the opera, Rockland, George Jr. in Utah! The Musical at the Tuachan Amphitheatre, and George in Sunday in the Park with George. As a director, he has staged dozens of productions, most recently Little Shop of Horrors, The Comedy of Errors, 1776, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, A Flea in Her Ear, The Mousetrap, Actletes, The Foreigner, The Full Monty, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Paul is currently a professor of theatre at Northern Michigan University, and is a member of Actors Equity Association.
A.J. Stephens* (Mrs. Lovett) is a junior double theatre/business major with minors in communications and music. She is also the Membership Recruitment Chair of Phi Sigma Sigma and a lead singer of her band “Tease.” A.J. enjoys long walks to the fridge, corgis, and making people laugh. Some of her most memorable roles include Hodel (Fiddler On The Roof, 2015), Martha (The Secret Garden, 2016), The Sour Kangaroo (Seussical, 2017), and Amy (The Bold, the Young, and the Murdered, 2017). A.J. would like to thank her parents for their support throughout her theatre experience and her sister Audree for always being her support system here at NMU.
Ethan Bott (Anthony Hope) is an English writing major finishing his degree at Northern Michigan University before pursuing a career in performance. He is grateful to be performing in this production of Sweeney Todd. Past roles have included Jesus in Godspell (Lake Superior Theatre), Tarzan in Tarzan (Forest Roberts Theatre), and Lloyd Dallas in Noises Off (Forest Roberts Theatre). Audree Stephens (Johanna) is from Big Rapids Michigan and is a junior at NMU majoring in theatre and minoring in dance. She has been in several productions through the FRT such as The Addams Family, Antigone, and Tarzan. She looks forward to more productions and is very excited for the audience to fall in love with this show!
Devin Murphy (Judge Turpin) is a graduating senior with a theatre major and communications minor at Northern Michigan University. He has appeared recently in Where a Certain Future (Levi Abramson - Forest Roberts Theatre), Scrooge! (Bob Cratchit - Forest Roberts Theatre), The Addams Family (Gomez Addams - Forest Roberts Theatre), Grease (Kenickie - Lake Superior Theatre), Scrooge! (Ebenezer Scrooge - Forest Roberts Theatre), Disney’s Tarzan (Kerchak – Forest Roberts Theatre), and Beacon on the Rock (Captain Petroff – Lake Superior Theatre). Devin would like to thank the entire theatre board for the amazing experience he has had as a theatre student here at NMU. Jacob Laitinen (Beadle Bamford) is a sophomore at Northern Michigan University with a major in theatre and a minor in music. Notable performances at NMU include: Porter in Disney's Tarzan, Creon in Antigone, The Snail with the Mail in A Year with Frog and Toad, and Monsieur Thenardier in Les Miserables. Jacob wants to thank his friends and family for coming to the show, and hopes everyone enjoys this fantastic production!
Lilith Kontos† (Tobias Ragg) is a senior at NMU majoring in English and minoring in theatre and entertainment arts. Recent acting credits include The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) (Narrator/Juliet/Ophelia), Steel Magnolias (Annelle), Grease (Jan), The Addams Family (Grandma Addams), Where a Certain Future (Deborah Abramson), and Into the Woods (Lucinda). Lilith is also currently the manager of the FRT Box Office, and an editing intern for NMU's literary journal, Passage North. She is absolutely thrilled to be a part of this production, and would like to thank her family, friends, and incredible boyfriend for all of their love and support!
Kortney Manchip (Beggar Woman) is a junior theatre performance major with a dance minor at NMU. You may have seen her in other productions such as Tarzan at NMU (Ensemble), The Addams Family at NMU (Ensemble), and Cabaret at The Vista Theater (Fraulein Kost). Kortney is thrilled to work with such a talented cast and crew for Sweeney Todd!
Nick Salin† (Jonas Fogg/Ensemble) is a senior at NMU. He is double majoring in theatre and mathematics. Some notable roles that you might recognize him from are Vito Deleoni (Building Madness), Charlie Davenport (Annie Get Your Gun), and Rudyard (The Valentine Fairy). Nick is also the Vice President of Alpha Psi Omega this year, the theatre honor fraternity on campus. He hopes everyone enjoys the show!
Maddie Rayner† (Birdseller/Ensemble) is a senior speech, language, & hearing sciences major with a minor in theatre & entertainment arts. She is extremely excited to bring this show to life! Maddie would like to thank the cast, crew, and production team for all of their time, effort, and hard work to put together this incredible show. Brooke Baneck (Ensemble) is a sophomore at Northern studying public relations. Sweeney Todd is her third production here, and she couldn't be having more fun. She is so incredibly proud of all the cast and team has accomplished in such a short amount of time. Seth Bowen (Ensemble) attended Rhinelander High school and is from McNaughton, Wisconsin. He is a sophomore, studying industrial technical secondary education with minors in secondary history education, music, and theatre. Seth has been heavily active in music and theatre since he was very young. He also enjoys hobbies like woodworking, blacksmithing, hunting, and record collecting. Seth is excited to be a part of the bloody production of Sweeney Todd and cannot wait for the cutting edge to meet the stage with such a great cast!
Erin Culp† (Ensemble) is a sophomore at NMU, currently double majoring in psychology and theatre. Her most recent shows include Tarzan (FRT), The Bold, the Young, and the Murdered (APO), and The Rocky Horror Show (Masonic). She has had so much fun working with the cast and crew involved in this production, and can’t wait to share this experience with an audience!
Dawson Del Preto (Ensemble) is a newcomer to the Forest Roberts Theatre, and he is honored to be performing with such talented and hardworking people. This is his seventeenth time being in the cast of a musical production; one of Dawson's greatest passions is music. With over a decade of experience, he loves to play the piano for himself and for others whenever he can.
Nathaniel Langlie† (Ensemble) is a junior theatre major from Madison, WI. Over the course of his time at Northern, Nathaniel has appeared in Noises Off as Tim, Scrooge! as Bob Cratchit, Tarzan as an Ape/Father, and Antigone as an Official. Other local credits include Beacon on the Rock as Evert Anderson and Godspell as the "All Good Gifts" soloist. Nathaniel hopes that you enjoy the show.
Katie Lavris (Ensemble) is highly excited to be in her first show at the Forest Roberts Theatre. Previously, Katie has been in small shows such as Gwen & Gwen and Bat-Hamlet, and some bigger shows like Catch Me if You Can and Legally Blonde. She is looking forward to seeing the show come together, and would like to thank all of the people who came to support the show!
Sabrina Nelson† (Ensemble) is a junior at NMU and is a theatre performance major and a vocal music minor. You may have seen her previously in Scrooge and Haunted Theatre at the FRT, and as Cyril Dane/Mona Jefferies in The Bold, the Young, and The Murdered through APO. Some of her favorite previous roles include Gingy (Shrek the Musical), Gertrude McFuzz (Seussical the Musical), Marilla Cuthbert (Anne of Green Gables), Mrs. Darbus (High School Musical), and Audrey (Little Shop of Horrors). Sabrina is thrilled to be part of such an amazing and talented production, and hopes the glory and horror of Sondheim keeps you on the edge of your seats!
Callie Reid (Ensemble) is a freshman at NMU who is majoring in applied behavior analysis. This is her first show at NMU and she is very excited to work alongside everyone in the cast.
Sophie Sam (Ensemble) is a freshman theatre & entertainment arts major, and is thrilled to be making her NMU debut with Sweeney Todd! She has performed in shows with Dickinson County Community Theatre including two productions of Dracula (Renfield), and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Linus van Pelt). She was also in the Mr. Black Presents production of Sweeney Todd (Beadle), and most recently performed with UPShakes at their 2018 toga party fundraiser. With DCCT, she co-directed Annie, and directed RENT. She most recently directed Anatomy of a Murder at the Vista Theatre. She is featured in the web series Northbound as The Kid.
Brady L. Skewis (Ensemble) is a senior at NMU, graduating this spring with a major in communication studies. He has been onstage at the Forest Roberts Theatre a number of times, in roles such as Ancestor/Male Understudy in The Addams Family, Selsdon Mowbry in Noises Off!, and The Great Mage Steve in She Kills Monsters. Besides being a starving artist, Brady has no solid plans for his future, so he’s sure you’ll catch him in a few productions and basement punkshows in 2019.
Creative Team Bios
Emily Fitzpatrick (Music Director) has a Bachelor of Music Education from Northern Michigan University and a Master of Arts in Educational Technology from Michigan State University. She is the music teacher at Lakeview Elementary School in Negaunee. Emily has been the vocal music director for many FRT productions, most recently including Scrooge (2016) and Into the Woods (2015).
Bill Digneit (Scenic Design) is the owner of Double Trouble Entertainment. He received his M.F.A. in Technical Production and Design at Florida State University.
David Pierce (Light Design/Technical Director) came to NMU from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY where he had been technical director for the department of theatre and dance. Other TD credits include Adirondack Theatre Festival, Little Theatre on the Square, and Four Seasons Theatre Company. David holds a BS in construction management from Ferris State University and an MFA in theatre technology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In his spare time, he loves to be outdoors. He enjoys hiking, boating, fishing, biking, and bonfires. He's also a boisterous Tigers fan!
Regan McKay†* (Costume Design, Makeup Design) is a senior theatre technology and design major, with minors in English and dance. She works in the FRT Costume Shop and Box Office and serves as president of Alpha Psi Omega. Costume Design of Sweeney Todd is her senior capstone. Past design credits at the FRT include Scrooge and The Bold, the Young, and the Murdered. She would like to thank her boyfriend, friends, and family for all their encouragement and support.
Hannah Cormier†* (Properties Master) is a senior at NMU, finishing out her degree in theatre tech and design. The properties design for Sweeney Todd is her senior capstone project, as well as her favorite properties design she has ever accomplished. A few past FRT credits include: The Addams Family (Props Design), Noises Off! (Production Stage Manager), and Tarzan (Asst. Light Design). Emily Baker (Stage Manager) is a junior design and technology theatre major and a welding minor. She has done too many things to list them all but here are her favorites: The Addams Family (Assistant Stage Manager), Noises Off (Properties Master), Fringe Festival 2018 (Lightning Designer), and Tarzan (Stage Manager). Taylor Wilcox (Assistant Stage Manager) is a history major with minors in English and education. She is a junior at NMU and has helped with shows such as The Valentine Fairy, and The Bold, the Young, and the Murdered in the past.
Emily Kendall (Assistant Stage Manager) is a sophomore criminal justice major and a theatre minor, and is very excited for the chance to be one of the Stage Managers on this fantastic show! Last year, she worked as stage crew for Noises Off and as a Flight Operator/Weapons Wrangler for Tarzan. She is also currently the Assistant FRT Box Office Manager. Emily wants to thank EEBs for taking her under her wing and The Fam for helping her get this far.
Abby Persoon† (Consulting Ornithologist) is a senior biology major and theatre minor. She has previously performed in Tarzan (Ensemble), The Addams Family (Ensemble), and The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon (Hansel). Additionally, Abby has worked in Dr. Alec Lindsay's Ornithology Lab since 2015, and in 2017 traveled to Zambia, Africa to research birds. She has also worked at three AZA-Accredited Zoos in the last four years, focusing in the education departments. After graduation in December, Abby will be moving to Florida to work for the Walt Disney World Resort. Abby would like to thank her family, friends, boyfriend, her APO family, the creative team, and especially her roommate Regan for all of the love, help, and support.
