DULUTH, Minn. â€Â“ The Northern Michigan University volleyball team (0-1) began the 2005 season the same way they ended the2004 season, with a loss to Minnesota-Duluth (1-0).  The Bulldogs defeated theâ€Â˜Cats in the quarterfinals of the 2004 NCAA II Elite Eight in four games(25-30, 26-30, 34-32, 24-30).  The first match of the season for both teamsproved to be all Bulldogs as they took care of the â€Â˜Cats in three straight(19-30, 26-30, 25-30). 


Holly Greenamyre led the â€Â˜Cats with eight kills whileteammate Andrea Smith had six.  Newcomer, Rachel Martinez, dished a team-high15 assists in her first match in Old Gold and Olive Green.  Two â€Â˜Cats were indouble-digits for digs as Liz Kohn had a team-leading 14 while anothernewcomer, Nicole Hintze, had 12. 


For the match the â€Â˜Cats registered 27 kills in 136 attemptsfor a .037 hitting percentage.  NMU did not have a service ace for the match,but had seven receiving errors. 


Tomorrow the â€Â˜Cats will play twice at the UMD/Kraus-AndersonClassic.  First up will be Concordia-St. Paul in the morning and St. Edwardsout of Texas in the afternoon.
