IRONWOOD, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University men’s cross country ski teamed opened its 2006-07 schedule over the weekend (Dec. 9-10) at the Grandview XC Challenge.
Saturday the skiers competed in the sprint race. Ben Cline won the Men’s Open Category as he made it through the three rounds of competition. Bill Bowler was fifth and Justin Singelton was ninth. Tim Cook was 10th in the Men’s Older Junior Class of the event.
Phil Violett led the Wildcats on Sunday in the Men’s Open 10K classic race with a third-place finish. He covered the course in a time of 29:24.55. Three teammates were behind Violett and placed in the top 10. Ben Cline was fifth (29:37.86), Bowler seventh (29:46.88) and Singelton 10th (30:22.44). Cook competing in the men’s Older Junior Class of the same race was third (31:22.13).
The ‘Cats will skate next at the U.S. National Championships which will be held in Houghton, Mich. from Jan. 3-7.
