Excel to be Well Fit Zone Challenge

(NMU Students Only)

Starting March 9th, NMU Rec Sports challenges you to excel to be well by partnering with the Fit Zone for your weekly workouts. From March 9th, 2020 until April 26th, 2020 you have a chance to win prizes for working towards better yourself. It's that easy.

Here's what you need to know

1. Fill out the form below to be entered into the Excel to be well program.
2. Make sure you have your Rec Pass - you can get one at the Rec Sports Main Office.
3. Use the Fit Zone for your workouts.
4. Sign in with the employee at the Fit Zone to record your visit.
5. Win cool prizes: Rec Sports swag, a private fitness class for you and your friend, and gift cards

The top three participants who visit and use the Fit Zone the most are guaranteed a prize, but all who enter are eligible for monthly drawings for more prizes.

Learn to Lift

Designed to help beginners learn the basic techniques and principles of weight training. Participants will learn how to perform squats, deadlift and bench press along with other strength/resistance exercises and proper form.
Youth (12-16)

Commit to Fit

Get involved, make new friends and be introduced to the many group fitness classes offered through NMU Rec Sports. This program is designed to challenge you to attend 15 of our group fitness classes over a 10 week period. Attending classes are a great (and easy) way to stay active over the winter months.
Participation requirements are as follows:
  • Participants must have a valid PEIF/Rec Sports Membership (open to NMU Students/Faculty/Staff/Community Members)
  • To register, send an e-mail to recfitnesschallenge@gmail.com include your name and the challenge name "Commit to Fit"
  • Each time you attend class, as for your challenge punch card  to be punched at either the PEIF or Fit Zone Desk
  • Challenge ends on March 28, 2020 when all cards with 15 punches are entered in a prize drawing
  • *Failure to get a card punched will result in a "no punch" for that class date

Wildcat Step Challenge

March 16th -  April 26th

Get up and get moving with the NMU Wildcat Step Challenge. This challenge will encourage you to get out and become more active this winter. The goal is to reach 10,000 steps as many days per week as you can over a six week period.  Challenge is available to all NMU Faculty/Staff, Students and Community members. Participation requirements are as follows:

  • Obtain a device that tracks your steps. Use your smartphone, smart watch, activity tracker apps or purchase a simple pedometer.
  • To register, send an e-mail to recfitnesschallenge@gmail.com by March 12th and include your name and the challenge name "Wildcat Step Challenge" or use the link below.
  • Participate in the Step Challenge form each week to log your daily/weekly steps.
  • If you reach or exceed 10,000 steps at least four days per week for four or more weeks, you will be entered in a prize drawing
  • *Failure to record weekly steps each week will result in that week being excluded from your challenge data
