Ultimate Frisbee Team
Established in 2008, the Northern Michigan University Club Ultimate Teams are seeking new players to join the highly competitive and supportive community of Ultimate Frisbee. Home to both an open team (Riptide) and a women's team (Aurora), both teams have had numerous successes, taking top 10 at the largest ultimate invite in the country, placing high at the conference tournaments, and both competing at the regional level. With hopes of making the national tournament, both teams work hard and play year round. No experience is necessary to join, and we seek students of all skill levels who are willing to bring good team spirit to the field and an attitude to learn the beloved game of ultimate. The fall season is spent practicing, playing pickup games, and traveling to tournaments. In the winter, we kick it up a notch, working on perfecting the skills needed to compete in the College Ultimate Regular Season and the College Ultimate Championship Series. Between practices and games, team bonding keeps the competitive atmosphere fun with trips, volunteering, fundraising, and more! So are you ready to come and play one of the most popular sports in the
Come to one of our practices or pickup games to see what it's all about.
$200 for each new player (new and returning). This fee includes a disc, tournament entrance fees, and a USA Ultimate ID (required to play in the winter season). Players are also required to purchase a PEIF pass for the year. In addition, extra money for travel and other club activities should be kept in mind, however, the team strives to also make things as affordable as possible.
Participants Must Supply
Cleats. If you do not have cleats then a good pair of tennis shoes will do fine until you are able to purchase some. Soccer cleats are generally a good choice for ultimate frisbee players though other cleats work well too. Metal spikes are not permitted when playing ultimate frisbee.
Travel opportunities are endless as a member of the Ultimate Frisbee Club Team. During the fall season, many tournaments take place in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and downstate Michigan. In the spring, tournaments take place in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and have in the past also taken place in Georgia and Missouri. It is important to note that tournaments will never interfere with classes. Departure time is usually Friday afternoons after classes with return times on Sunday evenings.
Winter 2017 - contact Hillary or Connor for practice times
Practices are held on the intramural fields on the corner of Wright and Lincoln street when weather permits. Winter practices will be held in the Superior Dome or PEIF gyms.
*It is strongly encouraged for all members to attend at least two practices a week, however three are preferred. We understand that school and work obligations come first, so if you are dedicated to being a member of the ultimate frisbee team, we will work with you and your schedule.
