Marquette, Mich.—Northern Michigan University Olympic Training Site weightlifter Nate Lewis placed sixth overall today at the University World Championships in Biala Podiaski, Poland.

Lewis, of Arlington, Wash., who competed in the 105 kg weight class, lifted 147 kg (324 lbs.) in the snatch and 181 kg (399 lbs.) in the clean and jerk.

“Nate did a great job,” said NMU-OTS coach Adam Latella. “This is a good building block for him; I’m sure we will see him compete on many future World Teams.”

Also competing were former NMU-OTS athletes Taylor Turner and Kenny Wilkins. In the 63 kg weight class, Turner lifted 83 kg (182 lbs.) in the snatch and 101 kg (222 lbs.) in the clean and jerk. She finished the event in sixth place. Wilkins placed fourth at 69 kg with a 113 kg (249 lbs.) snatch and a lift of 145 kg (319 lbs.) in the clean and jerk. His total in the clean and jerk earned him a silver medal in that lift.
