Current Organizations

Students for Sustainable LivingThe members of NMU student organizations sponsor almost 300 campus-wide programs and events every year in addition to the hundreds of group activities. These same students volunteer thousands of hours of service annually to local communities. In the process, the student organizations that register at Northern Michigan University every year provide thousands of students with fun, friendships, memories, and educational experiences that cannot be found in the classroom.

Efforts put forth by student organizations are recognized annually at the Leadership Recognition Banquet.

Student Organization: Northern Lights A Cappella

Description Northern Lights A Cappella is a mixed-voice, student-run a cappella vocal ensemble. Our purpose is to provide informal a cappella music to the NMU community and to provide NMU a voice in the collegiate a cappella community. The Northern Lights have performed for the annual Drag Show, sporting events, Homecoming/Winterfest events, and plans to compete in the International Competition of Collegiate A Capella (ICCA) in the winter semester. Membership is restricted to registered NMU students, but any student is eligible to audition. To schedule events, please email our event coordinator Matt Walker at matwalke@nmu.edu. For more information or any questions about the group, email jsalewsk@nmu.edu.
